Philadelphia Animal Specialty and Emergency (PASE) is seeking skilled Surgical Veterinary Technicians pursuing a position in an exceptional hospital environment fostering continued growth and development. A PASE Surgical Veterinary Technician will work with veterinary assistants, veterinary technicians, board-certified veterinary surgeons, other specialists, and emergency doctors to provide exceptional care for small animal patients undergoing elective or emergency procedures within a multidisciplinary specialty hospital. Responsibilities to include, but are not limited to:
- Demonstrating commitment to further education and growth within a teaching environment.
- Working with our board-certified anesthesiologist to formulate anesthetic plans, monitor and troubleshoot anesthesia, and monitor patients during recovery.
- Maintaining efficient daily flow of surgical procedures.
- Demonstrating proficiency in placement of peripheral and central IV catheters.
- Preparing, organizing, and maintaining surgical prep and operating room equipment and appropriate inventory stocking as needed.
- Working alongside a board-certified veterinary surgeon on surgical inpatient management with roles including but not limited to: Streamlining pre-operative patient intake and client communications, assisting intra-operatively as deemed appropriate, ensuring sample submissions, and coordinating and facilitating patient discharge.
- Working alongside a board-certified veterinary surgeon on outpatient appointments with roles including but not limited to: Obtaining history, facilitating patient evaluation, prescribing and filling medications, optimizing surgical scheduling, assisting with and performing diagnostics.
Schedule:
- Full time, 4x10 hour shifts
- Current surgery service hours are Monday-Friday
- On-call availability to be discussed, additional wages and on-call fee provided for after-hours anesthesia cases
Qualification and Education:
- Three (3) years of veterinary experience required: GP experience okay, specialty experience preferred
- Veterinary anesthesia experience required
- Veterinary Technician Certification (CVT or LVT) preferred
