What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Attorney for Policy and Planning position at Philadelphia Bar Association?
The Philadelphia Bar Association, the premier trade association and advocacy organization for Philadelphia’s legal community, is seeking an experienced attorney to lead the Association’s efforts related to public policy and support the work of the Associations relevant Sections, Committee, and Taskforces.
The ideal candidate will provide substantive support to association leaders as they draft resolutions, plan activities, and track important public policy matters impacting the practice of law and the communities our members serve. Under the direction of the Director of Policy and Legal Services, the Staff Attorney for Policy and Planning will shape and implement the public policy agenda of the association, conduct legal research, and work closely with Association leaders.
Responsibilities
- Monitor legislative activities on the state and local levels
- Serve as a professional resource to all sections and committees.
- Help guide and coordinate work of sections and committees moving resolutions through the Board of Governors
- Oversee annual association elections by serving as the staff liaison for the Elections Committee
- Conduct legal research related to public policy proposals
- Facilitate and promote communication and collaboration among Delivery of Legal Services Committee members on issues involving the delivery of legal services
- Work to increase access to justice by supporting the work of the Civil Gideon Task Forces and its related subcommittees
- In conjunction with our Manager of Special Events, plan events and special meetings, including creating agendas, preparing speakers, and drafting program materials
Skills/Experience:
- JD Required
- Proven ability to build long-term relationships
- 5 years of professional experience
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Work efficiently and effectively under pressure with the ability to prioritize workload
