The Accounting Associate is responsible for maintaining accounting records and producing timely reports, analysis, and statements in accordance with company policies and generally accepted accounting principles. Responsibility also includes administrative support for the office.

Principle Accountabilities

Post, validate and process accounts payable transactions including the preparation of batch payment.

Process daily and weekly payroll for hourly personnel, maintain an accurate record of all attendance infraction and progressive discipline points earned by hourly employees, monitor hourly employees vacation activity, manage the facility’s protective foot ware, molded hearing protection, and prescription safety glasses programs, and accurately track all FMLA, and intermittent FMLA.

Issue daily reports of financial matters, discrepancies, or irregularities as assigned.

Assist with on demand tasks, presentations and projects

Maintain accounting and payroll files and backup documentation in accordance with PCA’s record keeping policies.

Assist in preparations of month end closings of the financials for the plant.

Post entries accurately and completely to the general ledger and verifies and balances general ledger accounts.

Respond to corporate requests and cyclical filings in accordance with the Controller’s direction. Maintain follow-up system to ensure timely submission of requirements.

Provide daily administrative support which includes receiving, sorting, and delivering all incoming correspondence (mail, FedEx, fax), answering incoming phone calls, greeting guests, assisting co-workers with requests for information, ordering office supplies, maintaining an organized filing system in electronic or paper format as necessary, and/or preparing and distributing departmental reports.

Coordinate luncheons, off site employee functions, community events, and donations requests. Provide support for meetings such as room reservations, meals, and meeting equipment.

Basic Requirements

Education equivalent to high school diploma required.

1 year previous work experience in a business office / accounting function with exposure to general ledger, payroll, and/or accounts payable functions.

Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Previous work experience as a member of a team, or a strong understanding of the importance of open communication and information sharing between team members.

Ability to work flexible hours or overtime as needed.

Preferred Requirements

Associates degree or college accounting coursework.

Previous experience in the manufacturing sector, containerboard and corrugated packaging industry.

Experience with computer software that handles accounts payable, payroll and general ledger.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Working knowledge of accounting procedures.

Strong attention to detail. Possess organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details, deadlines, and requests.

Strong work ethic. Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple projects and/or requests concurrently.

Above average analytical skills. Possess the ability to handle detail-oriented tasks and review multiple documents and reports.

Must exercise independent discretion and decision making and take a proactive approach to issues and strategies

Strong appreciation for the retention and management of confidential information.

Above average written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with individuals throughout the company on departmental procedures, policies, and requests for information

Strong listening, evaluating, and organizational skills.

Previous experience working in a team environment preferred, or a strong understanding of the importance of open communication and information sharing among co-workers.
