Adult Protective Services Investigator
Job Overview:
The Protective Services Investigator is responsible for evaluating the medical, social, and psychological needs of older adults, investigating allegations of elder abuse, neglect, abandonment, and financial exploitation, and offering services to detect, reduce, correct, or eliminate risks related to identified abuse.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate allegations of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and abandonment for individuals aged 60 and above.
- Ensure compliance with agency and state standards for investigations and reporting.
- Establish rapport with consumers, families, service providers, and outside agencies.
- Conduct case management and develop care plans for older adults, involving family, friends, and service providers.
- Provide financial or surrogate management as needed.
- Testify in court and assist police in enforcing court orders.
- Participate in regular training, departmental meetings, and public education efforts.
- Coordinate care planning with various service providers, including mental health, healthcare, and community agencies.
Qualifications:
- One year of aging experience with care/case management or assessment experience Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, behavioral sciences, human services, or a related field

Work Location:

Additional Requirements:
- Physical & Drug Screening: Pre-employment physical and drug screening required.
- Criminal History: Satisfactory criminal history clearance.
- Driver’s License: Valid driver's license, a good driving record, and access to a fully insured car for client transport.
- On-call Availability: Paid evening and weekend on-call duty on a rotating basis.
- Training: Completion of Pennsylvania Department of Aging’s Older Adult Protective Services training required.
- Confidentiality: Adherence to confidentiality and all agency policies.
Duties and Performance Expectations:
- Meet compliance standards for investigations and ensure timely, accurate reporting.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments for emergency interventions and make appropriate referrals.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, healthcare providers, and community agencies for investigations.
- Coordinate case conferences and mobilize resources to meet client needs.
- Monitor service gaps and ensure high-quality care for older adults.
- Maintain case documentation according to state regulations and agency policies.
