Recovery Support Specialist (MAT) Job Description


This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to work in an integrated setting with people suffering from Substance Use Disorder. The Recovery Specialist will work both in our medical clinic and outpatient behavioral health space to offer their expertise on a patient's psychosocial stressors and behavioral health issues as it relates to their substance use disorder. The ideal candidate has a combination of skills, including case management, assessment, diagnosis, and brief interventions. The Recovery Specialist will work closely with our medical team to provide up to date MAT treatment, referral, counseling, and group therapy. Our program is focused on offering quality strengths-based clinical services, while providing evidence-based therapy training for our clinicians. We are committed to encouraging our therapists to use creativity and team collaboration with sound therapeutic treatment.


Qualifications: The Recovery Support Specialist will have a Bachelor degree or higher from an accredited institution in behavioral health documented by an original transcript. They will also have a minimum of five years (post bachelor's degree) providing supervised professional individual and group therapy to clients with a wide range of DSM diagnoses including depression, anxiety, drug dependence, and dual diagnosis. Other qualifications include:

  • Must have experience with the following treatment modalities: individual and group therapy, and psychoeducational groups. Experience with couples and family treatment is helpful.
  • Ability to utilize and follow all mental health licensing regulations and requirements of the state, insurance companies, and other funding sources.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with medical providers, support staff, and other professionals across multiple disciplines.
  • Experience with diverse populations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Screen for mental health disorders, social stressors, and unhealthy lifestyle choices using empirically validated measures.
  • Refer patients as appropriate to mental health and substance use treatment programs.
  • Provide motivational interviewing and psychoeducation to patients.
  • Run MAT groups monthly.
  • Offer brief problem-solving interventions to improve treatment adherence.
  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed.
  • Participate in daily staff huddles and weekly case conferences to collaborate with other professionals and across clinics.
  • Occasionally lead case conferences related to behavioral health issues for medical staff.
  • Document interactions in EMR.
  • Assist clients with obtaining resources that support their recovery journey.
  • Other duties as requested or assigned.

Other: Initial probationary period is three months. Performance of other tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis.

Salary range: Salaried position.

Travel Requirements: Minimal local travel required between Philadelphia FIGHT Health Centers.

Work Hours: 40 Hours/Week (M-F 9:00am - 5:00pm)
