Welder, Distribution Department
Individual must work in all sorts of inclement weather, winter, and summer, and when emergency work is necessary. Exposed to traffic and construction hazards plus those hazards related to working on natural gas pipelines and welding daily. May be subjected to mandatory overtime.
Responsibilities
Must meet all requirements of PGW's Operator Qualification Plan.
Capable of electric and acetylene welding in accordance with API Standard 1104 & D.O.T. Part192, Subpart E.
Must have ability to lay out angles, calculate runs, establish travel lengths involving angles, rolls and sets for all steel pipes.
Design plastic/steel pipe layout work to adjust to existing conditions which will allow adequate clearance between other underground structures and utilities.
Read blueprints and lays out work to conform to given dimensions.
Make templates for welding various special shapes.
Fit, fuses and welds service connections on mains.
Fit, fuses and welds specials such as bends, crosses, tees, drip pots, risers, and M & R stations etc.
Fit and welds in trench and is capable of welding on bottom of main that is in a fixed position.
Weld and fuses on pipe which may carry high- or low-pressure gas and repairs small leaks on such pipe.
Must be able to read and interpret sketches, instructions, General and Detail Main Maps, Construction Drawings etc.
Operate various other small machines such as pipe beveling machines, handsaw, chop saw, drill press and pipe bender.
Responsible for all tools, equipment and materials issued and utilized.
Perform various types of welding for other departments when required.
Perform 1" and 1W’ meter piping rebuilds after service renewals.
Perform re-lights on appliances after the services have been renewed and rebuilt.
Perform as ventilating or backfilling crew leader or assistant, when required.
Operate various types of Gas Detection equipment.
Capable of butt & saddle fusion & electrofusion in accordance with manufacturer's procedures and D.O.T.192-283, 285 & 287.
Use various types of Plastic Fusion Equipment and performs Plastic Fusion Procedures in accordance with manufacturer's specifications to join plastic mains and services.
Responsible for enforcing and following established safety procedures.
Fill in for Welding Foreman in his or her absence.
Perform other related duties for which previously trained.
Must maintain a valid driver's license.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Must have regular and acceptable attendance
Qualifications
High School Diploma
Must have a valid Driver’s License
Must have and maintain a welder’s certificate
Must successfully complete an assessment
This is a Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol tested position.
