Clinical Research Nurse
The CMCVAMC in Philadelphia recently opened the Jonathan and Plum Simons Precision Oncology Center of Excellence. We are expanding our clinical research efforts in both therapeutic clinical trials and cancer genetics and are seeking an experienced Clinical Research Nurse to provide support to these initiatives across the Hematology/Oncology Department at the CMCVAMC. This work will include prospective clinical trials (including both multi-center academic and industry sponsored studies) as well as non-interventional registry studies such as those focusing on clinical cancer genetics. In addition, the RN will participate in training for cancer genetics, through formalized coursework and case study. This role is particularly well suited for an individual who is interested a helping to grow a cancer clinical research program, with opportunities for new skills development, in a busy hematology/oncology research program.
Principal duties include:
This individual will support the conduct of both interventional and non-interventional clinical cancer research conducted at the CMCVAMC. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
1. Collaboration with sponsor entity and CMCVAMC regulatory team on study activation,
2. Management, as the lead for interventional and non-interventional clinical studies, including: a. all relevant study start-up activities, for example, creation of study forms, set-up of interdisciplinary team workflows (e.g., labs, nursing) b. study screening/enrollment, c. scheduling of study related visits, e. collection and documentation of study related data, f. safety reporting (NSAE/SAE), g. facilitation of study related clinical meetings, h. response to data discrepancy related queries, monitoring/audit findings,
i. study close-out activities, and j. timelines for all study related deliverables.
3. Patient support for clinical genetic testing, including a. Stewarding the veteran through point of care testing b. Facilitating post-test counseling where indicated c. Assistance of family members where needed d. Participation in genetics training, including formalized training with the City of Hope (virtual)
4. Collaboration with industry sponsors and other investigators from multi-institutional studies.
5. Education and training of new research staff.
Qualified candidates will possess the following:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Major in Nursing preferred
- Registered Nurse with license to practice
- 2-3 years of nursing experience required; clinical research experience preferred.
- Experience in oncology and/or clinical trials preferred
- Interest in clinical cancer genetics and development of cancer genetics skills
- Demonstrated capacity/ability from past work experience to learn and apply new concepts, develop skills and knowledge, work/collaborate with others, work independently, organize, prioritize, problem solve and utilize resources appropriately.
- Experience in a multi-modality clinical trials group or research team a plus.
- Experience with Microsoft office, including Word and Excel
Additional note: The Clinical Research Nurse will be a PREF employee that is supervised by the Oncology team. The Clinical Research Nurse will not be a CMCVAMC government employee.
