Youth Program Co-Facilitator - Young Friends

400 Hours per Year PART TIME

POSITION SUMMARY: The Young Friends Program Co-Facilitator collaborates closely with their counterpart to create a welcoming and spiritually enriching environment for 9th-12th grade participants. Together, they cultivate a strong sense of community, fostering meaningful relationships among high school-age Quakers and their families while supporting their integration into the wider Yearly Meeting.

This role requires harmonious collaboration with the co-facilitator to ensure seamless coordination of program activities, mutual support, and the nurturing of a spiritually engaged and inclusive community. Through thoughtful leadership and shared responsibility, the co-facilitator helps create spaces where young Friends can explore their faith, deepen connections, and actively participate in the broader Quaker tradition.

Reports to the Youth Engagement Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Planning & Implementation: Works in partnership with the Youth Engagement Coordinator to design and implement engaging programs and logistics for gatherings that nurture the spiritual and personal growth of Young Friends.
  • Youth Empowerment & Spiritual Development: Supports the individual and collective spiritual grounding of youth by fostering an environment that encourages their full participation, growth, and leadership within the program and the wider PYM community
  • Collaboration & Program Integration: Works closely with the Youth Engagement Coordinator and other Youth Program Facilitators to ensure alignment, mutual support, and a seamless flow between various youth programs.
  • Volunteer Recruitment & Training: In collaboration with the Youth Engagement Coordinator, actively recruits, develops, nurtures, and trains volunteer adults (Friendly Presences) who support and enrich the Young Friends Program.
  • Community Engagement & Special Events: As time and creativity allow, contributes to broader youth initiatives, events, and community-building activities beyond scheduled gatherings to strengthen connections and engagement.
  • Team Participation & Holistic Approach: Serves as an integral member of the Program and Religious Life team, contributing to team goals and ensuring that all activities reflect the values of fun, fellowship, worship, learning, and service. Approaches daily work with intentionality, honoring the deeper meaning and purpose behind the role.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Performs additional responsibilities as needed to support the overall mission and vision of the Young Friends Program and Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (PYM).

Required Qualifications

  • An active Friend or extensive experience with Friends' meetings; knowledge of Quaker principles and practice
  • Two or more years of experience in a related field, which can include related educational attainment, is required.
  • Two or more years of substantial experience working with high school-age youth is required.
  • Pass a criminal and child abuse background check, per PYM requirement for those working with vulnerable populations.
  • Able to work with children, youth, and adults, and to facilitate groups to develop their interests, gifts, and skills
  • Understands inclusivity dynamics, especially in relationship to age, gifts, LGBTQIA , ability, gender, sexuality, race, and class; knowledgeable in crisis intervention
  • Strong communication skills are needed, including the ability to speak clearly, listen deeply, and write well.
  • Able to travel.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes weekend and evening work.
  • Able to commit to serving in the position for three years
  • Pass a criminal and child abuse background check, per PYM requirement for those working with children.

TIME AND TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS

This is a part-time position (400 hours per year).  Work times are flexible in ways that meet work and personal needs and vary depending on the time of year. The ability to work evening and weekend hours, to travel locally, and attend the 5-day gathering (Annual Sessions) held in residence on a college campus in the summer is required

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: This is a Band 1 position, earning between $20 and $22 dollars per hour, depending on experience, and does not include benefits, however, all staff not insured through the PYM plan are eligible for a $200 a month health stipend with proof of other insurance.
