Organizational Overview
Philadelphia Youth Basketball, Inc. (PYB) was officially launched in June, 2015, with a mission to create transformative opportunities for thousands of young people, especially those from under-resourced families and communities, to reach their full potential as students, athletes, and positive leaders. A diverse and impassioned group of individuals, including leaders from the grass-roots to the tree-tops, have been working diligently to execute upon this mission by building an impactful program, a robust and sustainable organization, and ultimately a state-of-the-art youth basketball and education center to enable us to provide empowering experiences to many more children, youth, and families.
Summary - We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Intern to join our Development and Organizational Operations teams at Philadelphia Youth Basketball. This internship will provide hands-on experience with key functions, including communications, event planning, and donor research. The intern will work closely with staff members to support day-to-day operations and assist with critical projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mailing & Correspondence:
- Stamp, print, and mail thank you notes and letters.
- Communication:
- Assist with drafting and sending the internal weekly "Week Ahead" email.
- Support the creation and distribution of the internal monthly newsletter, including gathering information from department heads and working in Canva for design.
- Collaborate with Organizational Operations Coordinator in drafting the monthly Volunteer Newsletters to be sent in June, July, and August.
- Meeting & Documentation Support:
- Help with staff meeting recaps and summaries.
- Organize folders and files in organizational Google Drive.
- Assist with volunteer management tasks, including newsletter content and clearance sheet organization.
- Event and Team Support:
- Provide assistance to development, marketing, and organizational operations teams with events and planning needs.
- Conduct research on potential funders, donor relations, and fundraising opportunities.
- Inventory Checks:
- Perform regular inventory and organization checks on office areas including the kitchen, boardroom, copy room, and yoga studio.
- Collaborate with Development Coordinator in tracking and updating Brick Campaign records
- Support with ordering items needed for donor cultivation and stewardship such as PYB-branded apparel and other products.
- Calendar Management:
- Update the organizational calendar on Google Suite and RecDesk, working with organizational operations and guest experience to ensure all events and activities are accurately reflected.
- Technology & Tools:
- Experience with Canva is a plus for assisting with newsletter design.
Meetings and Collaboration:
- Attend weekly Development team meetings to discuss the “Week Ahead.”
- Participate in staff meetings to stay updated on organizational initiatives and projects.
Desired Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
- Currently pursuing or completed a bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Communications, Public Administration, Business, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
- Interest in nonprofit development, donor relations, event planning, and organizational operations.
- Ability to draft emails, newsletters, meeting summaries, and donor correspondence with clarity and professionalism.
- Strong attention to detail in file organization, inventory checks, and calendar management to support smooth operations.
- Interest or experience in assisting with fundraising events, donor stewardship, and marketing initiatives.
- Comfortable using Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Forms, Calendar, Drive), Canva (preferred for newsletter design), and RecDesk for documentation and event tracking.
- Ability to conduct funder and donor research to support development and fundraising efforts.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across departments to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Willingness to assist with volunteer coordination, internal communication, and event preparation to enhance organizational operations.
Compensation
This opportunity will include wages of $16/hour for up to 30 hours/week for 10 weeks.

This is a hybrid position. The intern can work remotely, but is expected to work in-person at the Alan Horwitz “Sixth Man” Center (4250 Wissahickon Avenue, Philadelphia) at least three days per week.
