What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bookstore Assistant position at Philander Smith University?
The Bookstore Assistant will provide exceptional customer service and ensure a positive customer experience for each visitor entering the bookstore.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide exceptional customer service to students, visitors, faculty/staff to ensure needs are met.
- Greets visitors and answers telephone.
- Assist with processing sales transactions involving cash, bank cards, or financial aid payments using the POS system.
- Prepare money for deposits.
- Prepare daily reports of transactions processed and monies collected.
- Handle money and credit cards, ensuring secure transaction practices.
- Check out textbooks for students.
- Distributes packages and mail to the different offices on campus.
- Assist students in picking up packages and mail in the bookstore.
- Unpack, label, restock, and put away deliveries, keeping shelves and coolers stocked.
- Maintain shelves, clean, and organize products to maintain an appealing sales floor.
- Ensures the sales floor is fully stocked and items are appropriately priced.
- Occasionally work after hours or weekends to support campus events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1-2 years of cashier retail experience
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills
- Basic math and computer knowledge
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening
