Position Overview
Philanthropy Massachusetts is seeking a Contract Accounting Associate. A successful candidate will bring strong knowledge of accounting practices and will be quality-minded, laser-focused, team-oriented, proactive, and possess a very strong attention to detail. This position is a hybrid of remote and in-person up to 20 hours per week, with at least 12 hours in-person. The Accounting Associate reports to the Finance Director and will work closely with other members of the Philanthropy Massachusetts staff where appropriate.
Compensation: $28-$34/hour. This is temporary position expected to last 3-6 months. This role has the potential to transition to a permanent position based on performance.
Job Responsibilities
· Data entry of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable invoices, bills, transactions, etc. in cloud-based accounting software platform (Sage)
· Generating Invoices and Account Statements
· Analyzing and adjusting account discrepancies
· Reconcile and balance general ledger accounts
· Account Reconciliation
· Reconciling the Credit Card account
· Working with Finance Director and CEO to support the annual audit process and communicating with auditors as needed
· Working with Finance Director and other staff to provide quarterly reports for Fiscal Sponsored entities
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration
· Knowledge of and experience with Sage 50 Accounting Software strongly preferred (or demonstrated proficiency with other accounting software platforms and a willingness to learn a new platform)
· Excellent attention to detail
· Ability to maintain and handle confidential materials on a routine basis
· Experience in a Microsoft Office environment, particularly with Excel, strongly preferred
· Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
· Ability to work collaboratively, foster team spirit, approach work with an equity lens and humility, and maintain a sense of humor
· Knowledge of and experience in the nonprofit sector or philanthropy is a plus
