What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Maintenance Painter position at Phillips Academy?
The Facilities Maintenance Painter reports directly to the Leadperson of the Facilities Maintenance Department. Under general supervision, the Facilities Maintenance Painter will prepare and paint a wide variety of interior and exterior building components and equipment utilizing industry best practices. When emergencies and / or extreme weather conditions occur, the functions of this position may be deemed essential, and employees must report to work and / or remain on duty during their regularly scheduled work hours or the work hours designated by their supervisors. Supervisors will inform employees when the functions are essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Prepare and paint surfaces as instructed by supervisor or from work orders.
- Protect all nearby furnishings and building materials before and during every painting job.
- Mix and match colors of paint, stain, or varnish to obtain desired colors and consistency.
- Utilize proper tools; brush, roller, spray gun, etc., to obtain proper finish.
- Collaborate with other professionals on larger jobs.
- As a member of the Facilities Maintenance Team, a painter may be asked to perform other maintenance of building systems and components including but not limited to : carpentry, cabinetry, drain clearing, roofing, cleaning, flooring, snow shoveling, furniture repair, lock repair, masonry, drywall, tile, glass replacement, install appliances, and escort vendors / contractors.
- Perform assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Maintain a functional awareness of the typical hazards of the work place as well as special hazards that may be encountered and perform assigned task safely.
- Perform tasks in all environments, indoors and outdoors.
- Properly record time and materials on each work order.
- Responsible for the inventory and safe usage of Phillips Academy's equipment and tools assigned to the Facilities Maintenance Department.
- Assist in preparing specifications to be used in bids for acquiring services.
- Responsible for adhering to policies, procedures, and practices on safety and operational instructions.
- Lend support to other departments as needed.
- Communicate via two-way radio.
- Interact professionally with faculty, students, staff, outside vendors, and occasionally Trustees of Phillips Academy.
- Work flexible hours as assigned by supervisor, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
