About IRT Summer Workshop
The Institute for Recruitment of Teachers (IRT) supports aspiring graduate students entering the education profession, spanning K-12 to higher education. As an outreach program at Phillips Academy Andover, IRT recruits and prepares graduate school candidates through year-long programming, starting with the flagship Summer Workshop. The program is delivered virtually, making it accessible to all accepted scholars. IRT's pedagogical approach centers on inclusion, supporting students within classrooms and enhancing community relationships. We believe diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential for excellence. The Summer Workshop helps students develop their professional identity while honoring their social identities. Each year, IRT selects 100–130 scholars. IRT is a community where faculty (all alumni) provide support in professionalization, pedagogical development, and curricular skill-building. During the workshop, scholars and faculty engage in seminars and skill-building sessions, exploring how to align academic interests with future graduate studies. These seminars introduce critical theory in education, humanities, and social sciences, preparing students for the philosophical rigors of graduate coursework.
The IRT curriculum includes lectures, chalk talks, and presentations by nationally recognized educators. Our Consortium partners will participate in a virtual Graduate Recruitment Fair in mid-July. Summer Faculty will receive orientation and onboarding before the Summer Workshop, with dates/times TBD. The Summer Workshop runs from Monday, June 30, 2025, to Tuesday, July 29, 2025, with no classes on Friday, July 4th.
Position Summary
