Summary
The Business Development Manager is responsible for leading and executing the company’s strategic business development initiatives. This role involves identifying market opportunities, developing relationships with potential clients, and driving growth within a specified market segment or region. The Business Development Manager will oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive business development and marketing strategies, managing the Business Development Coordinator and collaborating with other departments to achieve business goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Develop and implement strategic business development plans and objectives to support the company's growth and market share objectives, in coordination with senior management.
· Lead market research efforts to identify trends, market needs, and potential clients, translating insights into actionable business opportunities.
· Establish and nurture relationships with key industry players, potential clients, and partners to expand business opportunities.
· Direct the preparation of bids, proposals, and presentations, ensuring they align with company standards and client expectations, leveraging the skills of the Business Development Coordinator as needed.
· Oversee the entire sales cycle, from lead generation to closing deals, including negotiating terms and contracts with clients.
· Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking events to promote the company’s services and capabilities.
· Collaborate with the marketing department to develop and execute marketing strategies that support business development objectives.
· Monitor and analyze sales and marketing activity against goals, adjusting strategies as necessary to achieve targets.
· Provide leadership, direction, and management of the business development team, setting clear objectives and performance expectations.
· Report on business development activities, progress towards goals, and potential challenges to the executive team.
Supervisory Responsibilities
· Responsible for the performance management, mentoring, and career development of direct reports.
Requirements
· Proven ability to develop and execute business development strategies, with a strong track record of achieving revenue targets.
· Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
· Strong leadership and team management abilities.
· Deep understanding of market research, sales, and negotiating principles.
· Knowledgeable in current and possible future policies, practices, trends, technology, and information affecting the business and organization.
· Understanding of the general heavy civil construction market and the varying project delivery models.
Education and Experience
· Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field;with experience.
· At least seven years of experience in business development, sales, or a related field within the construction, engineering, or similar sectors, with a minimum of three years in a managerial role overseeing business development activities.
