Summary:
The Craft Laborer Apprentice is an entry-level position designed to support construction operations while learning key skills in laborer and equipment support roles. The position provides structured on-the-job training and development under the guidance of experienced team members and supervision. Apprentices are expected to perform general labor tasks, assist skilled craft workers, and progressively build capabilities in equipment operation, site safety, and construction practices.
Apprentices will receive wage increases based on hours worked.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with general construction labor tasks, including cleaning and preparing job sites, setting braces, and removing debris.
- Support skilled craft workers and equipment operators by providing materials, tools, and assistance as needed.
- Operate basic hand and power tools under supervision (e.g., shovels, tampers, cement mixers, compactors).
- Dig trenches, backfill excavations, and level earth using manual or pneumatic tools.
- Learn to perform pre-use and post-use inspections of tools and equipment and report maintenance needs.
- Follow all safety protocols and site-specific requirements
- Participate in required classroom and field-based training programs to develop construction knowledge and jobsite safety awareness.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support crew operations and personal development.
Requirements:
- Willingness to learn and follow direction from supervisors and experienced crew members.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Commitment to following safety rules and maintaining a safe work environment.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- No prior experience required; on-the-job training will be provided.
- Candidates with relevant field experience may be eligible for accelerated advancement.
Candidates who accept an offer of employment are required to undergo and successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination. This exam ensures that all potential employees meet the necessary health and fitness standards for the role. The examination includes a series of tests and evaluations conducted by a certified medical professional to assess overall physical health, identify any potential medical conditions that could interfere with job performance, and verify that the candidate is capable of safely performing the essential duties of the position.
Completion and clearance of this physical are mandatory steps in the hiring process.
