Summary:
The General Superintendent provides comprehensive on-site management of multiple construction project sites, ensuring all projects are executed in accordance with the overall design, budget, and schedule. This role involves high-level oversight and coordination across various construction activities and project stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the total construction efforts across multiple project sites to ensure adherence to design, budget, and schedule, including interfacing with client representatives, AE representatives, and other contractors.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise onsite functions across projects, including scheduling, engineering, material control, and the direction of onsite administrative staff in accounting, purchasing, etc.
- Supervise craft employees and other contractors as required by contracts across multiple sites.
- Authorize and approve all project personnel transactions, purchase requisitions, field design change requests, etc., as needed.
- Provide high-level technical assistance, such as interpretation of drawings, recommendation of construction methods, and selection of equipment, as required.
- Assist project management in developing and implementing project procedures, working documents, standards, and safety programs across all sites.
- Ensure compliance with all project procedures, safety program requirements, and work rules across all projects. Document violations, notify project management, and implement corrective actions as required.
- Assume responsibility for the productivity of crafts, efficient use of materials and equipment, and contractual performance of the project.
- Perform additional duties as directed by senior management.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly manage multiple subordinate supervisors, each responsible for various field operations across project sites.
- Indirectly oversee a broader range of team members engaged in field operations.
Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge and experience in site work construction such as earthmoving, dewatering, underground utility construction, road, and parking lot construction, and surveying.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently between project sites, potentially out of town or state.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects and teams.
Education and Experience:
- Four-year engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience.
- Minimum of ten years of construction management and/or craft supervision experience across diverse construction projects.
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction including technology, equipment, methods; craft agreements, jurisdiction, negotiations, engineering, cost control schedules, and safety.
