What the Daily Living & Adaptive Support Coordinator does:
Coordinating with Behavior Department, Classroom and Related Services staff, the Daily Living & Adaptive Support Coord provides physical assistance, personal care, and wellness support in a way that promotes dignity, independence, and comfort for students to participate fully and safely in the school environment. Additional responsibilities include:
- Coordinate consistent routines for toileting, feeding, and other personal care tasks to provide predictability and comfort for students.
- Collaborate with staff, such as occupational therapists or special education teachers, to encourage the development of functional skills, including training and guidance during feeding to foster student independence.
- Communicate and collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to provide insights into students' functional needs and progress, ensuring consistency across home and school settings.
- Ensure students' physical wellness and comfort, attending to personal needs throughout the day, including hydration, cleanliness, and comfort in various settings (e.g., classroom, playground, or off-campus activities).
- Assist with feeding, grooming, dressing, and other self-care tasks to build students' autonomy and maximize their participation in school and social activities.
- Provide mobility and physical support, assisting students with movement around the school and classroom, using mobility aids, and ensuring comfort and safety during transfers or positioning.
- Support students with toileting, diapering, and hygiene tasks, promoting independence, dignity, privacy, and respect.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What the Daily Living & Adaptive Support Coordinator brings to the team:
- Experience in special education, personal care, and/or home health care, required.
- A degree in psychology, education or related field preferred.
