PHILLIPS Building Futures provides students with the opportunity to attend school in a nontraditional manner. Students spend half of the day in a classroom receiving their academic instruction, and half of the day on the work site learning the construction trades. Building Futures is recruiting an Assistant Teacher for their program!
What the Special Education Vocational Assistant does:
In coordination with the Vocational Teacher, Behavior and Related Services Staff, the Vocational Assistant supports students in learning building trades skills in a hands-on environment. The Vocational Assistant assists the teacher in any of the following:
- Assist the vocational instructor with teaching building trades classes.
- Supervise high school students as they work on various construction-related projects.
- Transport students to and from the construction site by driving the activity bus, ensuring safe and timely arrival.
- Provide support in the classroom as needed, reinforcing vocational learning objectives.
- Collaborate closely with vocational instructors, behavior staff, and related services staff to support student success.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and productive job site environment at all times.
- Attend meetings, workshops, and training sessions as required.
- Support jobsite-wide and other building-related activities as needed.
- Maintain communication with community contacts and teachers regarding vocational programming.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
What the Vocational Assistant brings to the team:
- Bachelors degree in a relevant field, preferred.
- Relevant experience in education, psychology, construction, or a related area, preferred.
- Valid Drivers License required, with the ability to drive the activity bus to and from the construction site.
