The Advanced Process Control and Optimization (APC&O) Engineer provides advanced process control support to refinery operations and projects and promotes process control strategies from basic regulatory control to multivariable control to multi-unit optimization. This position is part of the site Automation Team which is part of the refinery technical organization. The APC&O Engineer is an active member of multiple cross-functional teams and acts as an advocate for best practices in the selection, implementation, and development of the process control systems to ensure that safety, regulatory, production, and optimization objectives are achieved. The APC&O Engineer is also an active member in the local business teams, and the Phillips 66 APC Network. The role is an individual contributor role and works to support a specific business until within the refinery.
Responsibilities :
- Identify control and optimization opportunities.
- Lead the development implementation, design and modeling of new model-based control or APC applications.
- Provide continuous support and maintenance for existing advanced regulatory and APC applications to maximize performance.
- Improve refinery process unit operational performance through APC application performance monitoring, tuning and optimization
- Support adopting and sharing APC and other best practices through internal and external networking
- Day-to-day support for process control related issues that impact unit operation. The activities include, but are not limited to :

The Borger Refinery is located in Borger, Texas, in the Texas Panhandle, approximately 50 miles north of Amarillo, Texas. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes primarily medium sour crude oil produced locally, and heavy sour crude oil produced in Canada, all of which are delivered by pipeline. Borger produces a high percentage of transportation fuels, as well as petroleum coke, NGLs and solvents. Refined products are distributed to customers via pipelines from the refinery to West Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and the Midcontinent region.
