What are the responsibilities and job description for the Apprentice- Cohort 18 position at Philly Shipyard default?
Hanwha Philly Shipyard’s apprenticeship program is designed to develop the next generation of shipyard skilled workers and leaders. This three year competency program takes candidates with little or no experience and trains them to be multi-skilled employees that can perform successfully in a competitive market and participate in the future success of Hanwha Philly Shipyard. The program is accredited by the State of Pennsylvania and 100% of the cost of related instruction is paid for by HPSI.
The 2025 recruitment opportunity is for Welders, Outfitters, Shipbuilders and Machine Operators. For the first 8 weeks, the 2025 class will work onsite in production departments for immediate immersion into the shipyard’s working environment and activities. At the end of 8 weeks, apprentices will report to the Training Academy to begin classroom training and hands-on lessons to obtain their certifications. Upon completion at the Training Academy, apprentices re-join production to begin work on ship construction. All apprentices are required to attend and complete a mix of classroom and on-line training throughout the duration of the program.

- Must submit a copy of H.S. Diploma or GED Equivalent along with application (Attach as a Document Below)
- A $65 Money Order is required to sit for the Mechanical Aptitude Test (Instructions will be included with invitation)
- Must take the Hanwha Philly Shipyard Mechanical Aptitude Test (Invitation Only)
- If any portion of this application is not filled out correctly or documents are missing you will not be invited to take the Mechanical Aptitude Test

- Must be able to obtain weld certifications as specified for the welder and/or the shipbuilder position.

- Attend all assigned instructor-led and on-line assigned Related Technical Training (RTI) courses.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Degree or GED Equivalent
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors, and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. A range of motion sufficient to perform general lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, climbing, working at heights, extended walking or standing, etc. is required. Employment in this position is contingent upon passing the medical examination.
All apprentices must be clean-shaven for a respirator fit test.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time, safety-sensitive position. Standard days and hours of work vary by department, days and hours determined by department schedules.
