Primary Function:
The Afterschool Teacher is responsible for delivering reading and/or math academic interventions for identified groups or groups of students of the LEAPS afterschool program. The Afterschool Teacher will provide children with a learning environment that helps them to develop socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development. Additionally, the Teacher will differentiate instruction for a variety of learners and ensure the proper services to children with special needs in the class. The Afterschool Teacher will work 5 to 10 hours per week supporting the after-school programs at either PS66 or PS44 site.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- · Develop lesson plans based on the New York City Department of Education’s selected curriculum utilizing Common Core curriculum framework.
- · Lead classroom activities.
- · Write reports and communicate with parents about children's progress
- · Create classroom materials
- · Maintain class records and student files
- · Modify the classroom to respond to individual children's needs.
- · Implement sound classroom activities and educational practices appropriate to the age and development of children in order to prepare for positive learning experiences.
- · Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and families of children served.
- · Maintain strong relationships with colleagues, administrators and afterschool leadership.
Position Requirements:
- · Minimum of 2 years teaching experience preferred
- · Master’s degree in Education or related field
- · DOE and PETS Fingerprint Clearance
- · Must be a teacher at the host school
- · CBC Clearance
