PAH Management proudly announces the PAH Management in Training Program. We believe in preparing hospitality students for success. The PAH Management MIT Program will provide hands-on training in each department to prepare for leadership roles. We are so glad you have chosen to participate in the MIT Program.

The FACTS :

How does it work? The Manager in Training program is designed to prepare qualified line associates into future leadership roles.

How long is the MIT program? The Associate will remain a Full-Time Employee for a period of 12 to 18 months and must remain in good standing. The MIT Associate will be placed for approximately 4 months in each department, learning the details of each role, including managing a group of associates. After the training, the MIT Associate would have learned how to operate and manage a department.

What department will I learn from? You will learn all the essential skills in every department that will prepare to develop you into one of our PAH leaders.

The program will be broken into the following sections.

  • Rooms : You will focus on performing the understanding of each entity of the rooms department. The rooms department consists of :
  • Front Desk / Night Audit : You will be expected to perform each role to its completion. You will learn how to manage associates on everyday work tasks.
  • Housekeeping Department : You will be expected to perform each role within the housekeeping department : Such roles consist of housekeeping attendant, houseperson, and laundry. You will learn how to manage a housekeeping team effectively, including daily housekeeping assignments, projects, and inspections of guest rooms and public areas.
  • You will learn how to schedule based on business needs.
  • You will learn how to order based on business demands and according to budget.
  • R&M : You will learn the basic operating functions of the engineering team. This includes but is not limited to, ordering, scheduling, overseeing and mentoring line associates. You will learn and assist in basic repairs and maintenance, such as painting, plumbing, electrical etc.
  • Food and Beverage / Banquets : You will learn how to effectively manage F&B. The food and beverage department consist of
  • The Culinary Team : Cooks, dishwashers, Sous Chef etc. You will be responsible for learning how to schedule, place food & paper orders, scheduling etc. You will be involved in assisting with food preparation. You will learn basic kitchen cleaning techniques and standards. Menu costing and planning.
  • Front of the House : You will learn and be responsible for overseeing servers, bartenders, and bussers. You will be responsible for scheduling, ordering supplies, cleanliness procedures, and ensuring all servers are up to date with Food Handler or TABC certification. You will be required to interact with guests to improve GSS scores.
  • Banquets : You will learn and be responsible for the banquet responsibilities. Such responsibilities consist of room set up and breakdown. Working with the Executive Chef and the Sales department to ensure pricing and BEOs are administered correctly. You will schedule based on the event and be participant.
  • Administration : You will learn how to manage everyday accounting, human resources administration.
  • Sales : You will learn how to sell effectively and process groups.

After a successful completion of the MIT (Manager in Training) program, PAH will provide you with a certificate of completion. Below is an in-depth map of what you will be learning.

Rooms Department

Guest Services :

The MIT will be assigned to the Front Desk for a period of 3 to 4 months. During this time, you will learn the following areas :

  • Brand training : This consists of any required training a guest service agent will need to participate in. Such training will incorporate basic system training (ONQ or Fosse), brand knowledge. MIT will be up to date on all Brand Training. He / She will take ownership ensuring training is completed on a timely basis. Furthermore, he / she will be responsible for ensuring his / her team is up to date with training.
  • Guest Service : MIT will first shadow guest service agents, to ensure quality customer service is being adhered to. The MIT will be empowered to provide exceptional guest service.
  • Guest Service Agent Shift procedures : This includes but is not limited to.
  • Checking in guest

  • Checking out guest
  • Retaining proper method of payment
  • Room key procedure
  • Transfer guest rooms
  • Reservations
  • Cash handling
  • Communicating with housekeeping and maintenance for availability of rooms.
  • Night Audit : MIT will learn how to process Night Audit. Interns will learn how to secure the hotel in the evening. Interns will follow similar procedures as a Guest Service Agent.
  • Housekeeping : MIT will be assigned to the housekeeping department, he / she will assist in overseeing the daily housekeeping operations. MIT will be proficient in performing the following duties. :
  • Houseperson : MIT will learn how to be an effective and productive houseperson. He / She will assist the housekeeping department with cleanliness procedures. Houseperson duties are but are not limited to keeping the public areas always clean. Ensuring all garbage is taken out on time. Vacuuming, dusting, wiping etc. The houseperson will assist housekeepers in delivering linen and any other necessary items for guest rooms.
  • House Attendant : MIT will learn how to properly service a guest room. These duties will consist of stripping a room, cleaning bathrooms, bedrooms, and living room areas, including vacuuming, dusting, cleaning windows, and wiping down surfaces and all items in a guest room. The intern will learn to perform these tasks at a reasonable productivity standard. Interns will pay close attention to detail. Such detail will consist of but not be limited to the removal of hair and debris, and proper positioning of items in the room such as pillows, remotes, etc.
  • Housekeeping Supervisor : The MIT will learn how to assign daily work assignments to housekeeping employees, properly inspect rooms, manage employees, provide guidance and support when needed, assist as a working supervisor in cleaning rooms, communicating with the front desk about current rooms status, assist with inventory control and ordering. The MIT will learn how to open and close the housekeeping department. He / she will ensure that all safety measures are being adhered to by employees. Such as proper chemical usage, etc.
  • Maintenance : MIT will learn how to properly maintain the functionality of each guest room. MIT will learn how to repair walls, paint, assist with plumbing projects, electrical troubleshooting, maintenance repair on operating equipment, and ensure safety protocols are being adhered to. MIT will learn how to schedule based on business needs and manage the maintenance team.
  • Food and Beverage : MIT will be assigned to Food and Beverage for a period of 3 to 4 months : In this time MIT will learn the following areas : The MIT will learn all aspects of the Food and Beverage department.

  • Kitchen : The MIT will learn how to clean a kitchen properly, this may include sweeping, mopping, removing debris, scrubbing, polishing silverware, pots and pans, dishwashing, and other facets of maintaining the kitchen clean.
  • Culinary preparation work : The MIT will learn proper culinary meal preparation, portion control, proper use of utility tools, proper storage of food. The intern will learn basic culinary skills in cooking and plating meals.
  • Server & Banquets : MIT will learn proper serving procedures and order taking, The MIT will learn how to set up and break down a banquet function.
  • Food and Beverage Administration : The MIT will learn how to place and receive food orders. The MIT will learn how to properly store food received. The MIT will learn how to properly date items in the freezer and refrigerator. The MIT will learn how to code invoices and submit them for processing.
  • Administration : You will be assigned to Administration for 1 to 2 months. In this period, you will learn the following areas : Basic human resources, accounting, and clerical.

  • Accounting- The MIT will learn the functionality of the accounting department. They will learn how to process invoices, research inquiries, and lend support in everyday accounting needs.
  • Filing : The MIT will file any documents necessary for the property. MIT will learn the daily operations from the General Manager and lend support as needed.
  • Human Resources : MIT will demonstrate confidentiality to employee records, they will learn the important sections of HR, such as FMLA, LOA, and Benefits, and must lead or be a participant of a committee.
  • Sales : The MIT will be assigned for a period of 1 to 2 months in the Sales Department. The MIT will learn how to effectively run the sales team. He / she will work alongside the Director of Sales to learn strategic ways to increase revenue.

    As a leader, you will be evaluated by each department head and graded based on duties and responsibilities. Upon completion of this training, you will have the opportunity to formally apply to any management opportunity within the company.
