Phoenix Community Development Services mission of “Turning Lives Around” reflects our long history of serving populations of individuals who have limited resources and support systems, including those have been homeless or who are currently facing homelessness who have mental health challenges and face financial burdens such as extremely low to zero income. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Phoenix Workforce Development Center (WFD) provides employment readiness training and supportive employment services to individuals who are currently experiencing homelessness or have formerly experienced homelessness and reside in permanent supportive housing. WFD utilizes an employment model which values employment opportunities for everyone regardless of barriers; the consumer’s participation in selecting a competitive job; job-search assistance; ongoing employment counseling that integrates behavioral health counseling; financial planning; and job development.
The Employment Navigator develops and maintains employer relationships with the goal of identifying and meeting their human resource needs; partners with Job Coaches to match appropriate clients with ideal job openings; advocates on behalf of our consumers to prospective employers; assists employers with on-boarding our consumers; and provides ongoing support for both employer and consumer as needed.
The Employment Navigator provides holistic employment services for each consumer. The Job Coach is client focused while the Employment Navigator is employer focused. Together, they provide the necessary tools, training, support, on-site assistance at the place of employment, accountability, advocacy, and positive reinforcement to give the participant the best chance at securing and maintaining gainful employment.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
- Current and valid driver’s license.
- Maintaining continuing education requirements specific to field and position.
- Must have the following:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience in field related to social services and/or job counseling or other related field
-Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree in Human Services or Human Resources field
- At least 2 years of experience in working in social service work and/or job counseling or other related field
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of various clinical criteria related to issues confronting our consumers (i.e. mental health, substance abuse, housing)
- Knowledge of local service provider network (i.e. substance abuse treatment, mental health services, employment readiness services)
- Use Rules of Professional Ethics, Regulations and Confidentiality and apply to daily work situations.
- Intermediate knowledge of Windows office systems such as Word, Excel and Outlook
- Strong leadership skills and leadership experience
- Demonstrated program development and implementation skills
- Ability to represent the agency effectively in a variety or settings and with diverse communities
- Optimistic outlook and naturally delivers positive reinforcement
- Ability to work effectively and independently with various levels of employees, community leaders and other related agency business interests
- Experience advising and coaching under serviced populations including but not limited to: veterans, returning citizens, GED/non-high school graduates, persons with disabilities and senior citizens
-Ability to learn skills, analyze tasks and teach skills to job seekers with diverse learning styles
-Knowledge of principles and practices associated with career service, human resources, workforce development and coaching
-Familiar with a variety of industries including but not limited to: health, hospitality and culinary, IT and technology, retail, and trades
-Demonstrated knowledge of employment trends and current job search strategies, including but not limited to: LinkedIn, online recruitment, applicant tracking protocols, O-Net and networking strategies

WORK CONDITIONS
- The Employment Navigator has a designated office but is expected to spend majority of day in the community networking and connecting with various employers, stakeholders, etc.
- Regular travel to various community settings
- Expect to interact with staff and consumers to provide activities related to work such as conducting meetings as well as workshops
- May require prolonged sitting, standing, or walking
- Able to work in noisy and crowded environment

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
