Job Purpose:

This work description is to provide a summary of job responsibilities for the Director of Concrete Operations position at Phoenix Fabricators and Erectors, LLC. This summary is understood to only provide a basis for the job and does not and will not be a complete listing of each job responsibility required. It is understood that job responsibilities are constantly changing, and the Director of Concrete Operations position requires flexibility and a willingness to take on additional responsibilities as required or that can reasonably be assumed to be a responsibility associated with this position due to its necessity for performing work within this capacity.

Description of Essential Duties:

  • Overall responsible for the Site/Civil & Foundation and the vertical concrete Shaft departments.
  • Create and manage the production schedule for all foundation and civil/site work.
  • Attend weekly scheduling meeting with Operations and monthly project review meeting with Operations and Finance.
  • Operational Leadership:
    • Lead and manage all concrete operations, including production, quality control, logistics, and project management.
    • Develop and implement operational strategies to optimize efficiency, productivity, and profitability.
    • Provide engineering design and engineering guidance for our design engineers for our vertical concrete and foundations.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
    • Review and comprehend project plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports to ensure the company is in compliance with all project requirements.
    • Coordinate with Engineering Department for all issues associated with design requirements and/or constructability.
    • Mentor foreman and new employees.
    • Develop, monitor, and enforce field quality and quality control procedures.
    • Troubleshoot concrete, piping, and sitework related issues in the field.
    • Develop and manage the training and education for civil and concrete department personnel.
    • Establish and maintain good working relationships with critical vendors.
    • Negotiate and validate vendor pricing.
    • Responsible for the management, budgeting, purchasing, maintenance, and safety of department equipment.
    • Represent PFE with our clients on the concrete, piping, and site work phases of projects as required.
    • Respond to all queries and requests for concrete, piping, and sitework related information from all internal and external sources.
    • Coordinate all repairs with the project management team or other departments.
    • Keep up to date on all new concrete and piping technologies and regulatory changes.
    • Available 365 days a year to manage challenges whenever they may present themselves.

  • Quality Assurance:
    • Establish and maintain quality control systems to ensure the highest standards of concrete quality.
    • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with quality standards.
    • Address and resolve any quality issues in a timely manner.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Promote a culture of safety and ensure all operations comply with health and safety regulations.
    • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures.
    • Conduct regular safety training and drills for staff.
  • Team Management:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of managers, supervisors, and production staff.
    • Set performance goals and conduct regular performance reviews.
    • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
    • Optimize supply chain processes to reduce costs and improve service levels.
  • Customer Relations:
    • Maintain strong relationships with key customers and stakeholders.
    • Address customer inquiries and resolve any issues promptly.
    • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through exceptional service and quality.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
    • Utilize Lean methodologies to drive continuous improvement.
    • Monitor industry trends and innovations to keep the company at the forefront of the market.
  • Financial Management:
    • Prepare and manage the operational budget, including forecasting and financial reporting.
    • Monitor financial performance and implement cost-savings measures.
    • Provide regular reports to senior management on operational performance and key metrics.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises the Civil/Site and Foundation Operations Managers
  • Carries out supervisory duties in accordance with company policies and applicable employment laws.
  • Training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • A Professional Engineering License
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the concrete industry, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Experience in vertical concrete construction methods.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale concrete operations and driving operational improvements.

Sedentary position requiring extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Talking, hearing, and repetitive motions are required. Constantly and repeatedly use keyboard/mouse.
