Job Purpose:

The Maintenance Technician position will work under the leadership of the Shop Superintendent and will primarily focus on preventative maintenance inspections and repairs through safe, thorough, and positive work habits.

Description of Essential Duties:

  • Performs Preventative Maintenance inspections and repairs, as assigned.
  • Dismantles machinery, or equipment, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and required tools necessary to do so in a safe manner.
  • Assembles and installs equipment and parts necessary to accomplish optimal production efficiency using available tools and supplies.
  • Performs tasks necessary to support proper machine operations and facility operations. Completes all planned maintenance activities within the specified timeframe of the PM schedule.
  • Skills and training to properly select the equipment and tools needed to perform the assigned tasks.
  • Perform tasks related to multi-craft maintenance such as pipe fitting, welding, electrical wiring and conduit assembly, fabrication, and equipment troubleshooting, etc.
  • Assists in creation, updating, and continuous improvement of the Preventative Maintenance Plan.
  • Follow instructions, read electrical schematics, and utilities equipment documentation to troubleshoot and maintain all plant equipment, as well as troubleshoots to determine causes of machine failure and recommends a solution for repair, resolving any breakdown issues with minimal impact to production.
  • May direct other workers to assist in maintenance activities.

Qualification Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED), or equivalent.
  • Must have 3-5 years of Industrial Maintenance experience being knowledgeable and skilled in all aspects including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical tools, and maintenance shop equipment.
  • Fabrication skills, including but not limited to, welding, grinding, cutting, and drilling.
  • Basic knowledge of building plumbing, water, compressed air, and other utilities as necessary to repair these systems.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and be willing to work 40 plus hours per week.
  • Be able to work at heights, off ladders and lifts.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to plan work. Ensure all work is carried out accurately, to a high standard and within agreed timescales.
  • Perform a variety of duties which may change often, including operating equipment when necessary to support production.
  • Strives for continuous improvement of both production equipment efficiencies and maintenance practices and procedures.
  • Good interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with a variety of people. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Sets a positive example for others both in maintenance and production areas with regards to work ethic and safety by keeping work areas clean.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Exercises effective decision making with respect to the cost of repairs and makes decisions based on quantifiable information.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and/or hear, and/or use hands and fingers to handle or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand, and/or walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move and/or pull up to 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds with assistance) of equipment, material and/or tools which may include lifting 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds with assistance) above shoulders. Must also be capable of climbing onto trailers or trucks to secure and move equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee works in high precarious places, is potentially exposed to fumes, airborne particles, dust, non-weather heat, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is also sporadically exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate but may be loud at certain times. The employee must be available during traditional hours (40 plus per week) to complete assigned tasks according to contract or job requirements.
