What are the responsibilities and job description for the Weekend Developmental Disability Caregiver/Aide position at Phoenix Facilitation of California LLC?
PLEASE NOTE: If you do not answer all of the questions associated with this ad, your application will not be considered.
C. is a 7 year old diagnosed with Down Syndrome & autism. His parents are looking for someone to support him at home and in the community (92660 area) for at least 8 hours per day Saturday & Sunday, with the possible opportunity for additional hours during the week (up to a total of 38 hours per week.) You will be assisting C. with daily activities like picking up from school, playing, bathing, dressing, and eating, but in addition, you will be assisting him in the community by going to fun places, like the YMCA, the pool, and the park.
Due to C’s disabilities, he receives funding from the Regional Center of Orange County (https://www.rcocdd.com/) to meet his needs and for this service and staff. He is part of the Self-Determination Program (https://www.rcocdd.com/client-services/self-determination/) which is why his family can select their own staff. Specifically, you will be hired by a Financial Management Service (FMS), SequoiaSD, as a W-2 employee paid hourly at a rate of up to $25.00 per hour; payment will be twice per month. You must be able to pass a background check and have reliable transportation to be able to drive C. as needed. The family will be your Employer of Record and who you will report on your taxes.
Please see below and attached to learn more about C. and determine if you are the person C. and his family need!
C. IS:
· Very sweet & loving
· Someone who develops strong relationships with people he connects to
· Very social & affectionate with “his people”
· A music lover; he is a fan of country & dance music.
· Someone who likes to interact with you & his toys together
· A horse lover; he goes horseback riding twice per week
· A jokester. He’s giggly & fun.
YOU NEED TO:
· Have your own, reliable, car, a clean driving record, and be able to drive C. into the community as needed.
· Be dependable. The family really runs off routine & relies on a caregiver to not call out, especially last minute, with the exception of being truly ill. Last-minute schedule changes do not work for them.
· Be fun! C. & his family are fun and it will be better for all of you if you enjoy being with him.
· Be quick on your feet; C. can be fast on his and sometimes will elope/wander away, especially when in the community, so he must have constant supervision to ensure his safety.
· Be willing to work with C.’s communication skills. He uses an Augmentative & Adaptive Communication (AAC) device that the family and/or ABA provider will train you on using.
· Be comfortable in a busy, active, high-energy household; there are five kids in the home, and there is a lot of stimulation at all times.
· Be willing & able to provide hands-on assistance with eating, dressing, personal care, and toileting.
· Be flexible and patient, while remaining firm and giving clear directions.
· Be calm and don't raise your voice, while remaining consistent in what you ask him to do.
· Be organized and prepared for each day
· Be a strong team player who is able to adapt to changes in C.’s routine & care. You will be working with not only his parents, but also his Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy team.
· Be comfortable with the family’s 7-pound dog (“Morky” – half Maltese, half Yorkie)
· Know that C's family is here to help you! To them, his autism & Down Syndrome are not disabilities; they are different abilities. Please ask his family if you have questions or concerns; they love him just like he is, and they think you will too.
C. NEEDS:
· Constant supervision to avoid potentially unsafe situations. He requires a caregiver who is alert, active, and responsive to him; if you want to sit on your phone, this is not the right job for you.
· Someone to be “his person” and to forge a genuine connection with him. It is critical that he has consistent support from a reliable caregiver who will show up regularly & on time.
· Help to be safe in the community. Sometimes he may not realize he is in others’ personal space or that what he is doing isn’t safe.
· To follow a routine & the procedures his parents have put in place.
· Praise when he does well
· Redirection when he gets distracted from a task
· Hands-on support with eating, dressing, personal care, and toileting.
· Assistance with communicating via his AAC device (“talker”)
