Overview Of Position
The EHS Technician is responsible for implementation, maintenance and compliance activities for the Environmental responsibilities of the Burns Harbor location and general safety and health support under the direction of the EHS Manager.

The employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear; the employee is frequently required to stand and sit; is occasionally required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, walk, sit, bend, stand, talk and hear. Must be able to move heavy loads. Primarily day shift position, however, flexibility to work nights and weekends pending situations.

The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; exposed to cold and/or windy conditions; occasionally exposed to airborne particles.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Complete and maintain all required recordkeeping and forms
- Regularly audit and report on environmental performance to internal clients
- Promote and raise awareness within the organization of the impact of emerging environmental issues
- Train local staff on environmental issues and responsibilities
- Report the status of action plans to site management regularly, and track in EHS electronic management system
- Stay updated with multi-permit requirements and state and federal regulations
- Well-developed interpersonal skills; ability to get along well with people of diverse backgrounds, experience, and personalities; tactful, mature, flexible; ability to convey information and ideas in a variety of media, confident, at all levels, internal and external; thorough and attentive to details; able to prioritize and multitask; proactive and deadline-oriented.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems promptly; develop alternative solutions; work well in a team problem-solving situation; exhibit sound and accurate judgment; support and explain reasoning for decisions, include appropriate team members in the decision-making process.
- Computer literate and thorough knowledge of MS Office such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other applicable tools.
- Readiness for flexible working hours, reliability, enthusiasm, and interest in teamwork.
- High school diploma or GED
- Willingness to work in a Steel Mill
- Experience in environmental compliance coordination and/or experience in steel mill operations and environmental compliance
- Understanding and ability to interpret and apply environmental regulations and legislation
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to promoting sustainable development initiatives.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting is preferred but not required
- Associate degree or higher in an environmental or safety, technical, or related field preferred but not required
