SUMMARY DESCRIPTION :

The AUV Technician I participates in the maintenance, repair, and operation of complex underwater search and AUV systems and subsystems. AUV systems include all onboard components of the AUV and associated peripheral systems like navigation, communication, and post-processing systems. The AUV Technician I is also required to work in a team environment and handle assignments independently. This position is located in Largo, MD and reports to the AUV Supervisor.

CLASSIFICATION : Non-Exempt (hourly)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Operate, troubleshoot and repair search and AUV systems, subsystems, and ancillary equipment in the offshore environment.
  • Perform AUV planned maintenance in accordance with operational requirements, discuss work to be undertaken with supervisor, carry out AUV system maintenance and complete planned maintenance schedules.
  • Process fault finding and diagnosing processes, to include limitations of AUV system and sub-components and identify AUV hazards that could arise.
  • Plan and configure all AUV mission types and operate all supporting AUV equipment, including the navigation, launch and recovery system, and all pre and post dive checklist procedures.
  • Identify all associated AUV tools, test equipment, pre & post supporting maintenance, and risk assessments relevant to assembly and disassembly of the AUV vehicle and its different payload sections.
  • Integrate specialized operational tools other than existing AUV equipment (i.e. HD Camera, Magnetometer, pinger locator, etc.).
  • Comply with established Phoenix QMS processes and procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS :

  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university. Two years of formal electronics training or four years equivalent work experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Minimum four years field experience working with troubleshooting and modifying search and AUV systems i.e., sonar, multibeam, Sub Bottom Profiler, subsea camera, USBL tracking systems, acoustic data communications, and AUV power generation distribution and control systems, to include battery charging maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of computers, microprocessor units and AUV support (e.g. launch and recovery) equipment including experience in configuring, operating and troubleshooting PC’s, network, and AUV mission planning.
  • Understanding of offshore rigging and operational safety practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all company safety systems and procedures.
  • Minimum 7 offshore project search or AUV operational watch-standing experiences.
  • Team player with demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of search or AUV operations personnel
  • Ability to assign tasks to subordinates and peers ensuring clear understanding and satisfactory completion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills with competence in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Expected to work 12 hour shifts, 7 days a week, when on board ships or rigs at sea.
  • Ability to walk unassisted and carry 45 pounds.
  • Must possess a current Passport, ADCI Card, and TWIC Card.
  • Ability to travel worldwide on short notice, for indefinite periods of time.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug / alcohol screen and physical, as required.
