AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER
$42.94/hour plus Health & Welfare $7.83
The primary responsibility of the Air Traffic Controller is to provide air traffic control services within the Elizabeth City Coast Guard Air Station/Regional Airport, North Carolina (KECG) Class “D” airspace in accordance with FAAO 7110.65. The ideal candidate will also conduct and record weather observations as a Limited Aviation Weather Reporting Station (LAWRS) specialist in accordance with FAA JO 7900.5.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides air traffic services to aircraft arriving, departing, and conducting practice approaches to KECG.
- Maintains positive control of aircraft within designated ATC assigned airspace and communicates with adjacent facilities to transmit and receive instructions and information relative to flight.
- Applies appropriate separation minima IAW applicable FAA or Military directives.
- Alerts airport emergency crews and other designated personnel while handling unexpected events and/or emergencies in accordance with Pre-Mishap and Fire/Crash Rescue Plans.
- Formulates and issues all ground movement instructions to aircraft on the ground, vehicles and personnel operating within the controlled movement areas.
- Provides current weather phenomena to aircraft.
- Record and transmit Automated Terminal Information Service (ATIS) in accordance with FAAO 7110.65.
- Disseminate Notice to Aviation Missions (NOTAMs) as required.
- Maintains and disseminates records of daily operations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Basic computer skills specifically using Microsoft Teams; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs.
- Ability to enter data accurately into databases both manual and electronic.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as Read and Initial briefings, FAA Orders pertaining to Air Traffic Control, Elizabeth City Standard Operating Procedures Manual, and Coast Guard Air Operations Manual.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in the daily facility log.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of the Air Traffic Team.
- Strong professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service and follow-up.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to evaluate data and consider decision impact across multiple areas with limited information in high stress situations and environments.
- Strong decision analysis and problem-solving skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions. Must be able to communicate issues to management and regulatory agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have previously been awarded a FAA Control Tower Operator (CTO) Certificate.
- Must have a minimum of one year ATC experience as a Tower controller.
- Must have a minimum of one year Controller in Charge (CIC)/Watch Supervisor experience.
- Required to obtain and maintain a FAA Class II Medical clearance.
- Required to obtain and maintain a FAA LAWRS certification for control tower operators.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Valid driver license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass drug and background screenings.
- Must be able to obtain a government security clearance.
- Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
