3rd Shift Crane Operator I- Hammond, IN

Job Summary

This job is in the Plant family (Department), which includes positions responsible for supervising or performing metals processing and distribution work. Work includes specialized equipment operation and/or supporting functions and requires a practical knowledge of the nature and operations and the materials, facilities and methods employed by Phoenix Metals in metals processing and distribution.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Unload inbound coils in receiving area.
• Move coils from storage bay to production area.
• Load outbound coils to trucks in shipping area.
• Inspect crane for defective parts and notify supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
• Manipulates or depresses crane controls and levers, and ensures load is safely attached to crane within lifting limits.
• Keep crane clean and well maintained.
• Learn how to navigate operating system (LANSA/Mocha)
• Keep coil bay and associated area free of debris.
• Maintain a safe work area.
• Wear required PPE at all times.
• May also be responsible for shipping and receiving duties (loading of stock material on trailers)

Required & Preferred Qualifications

• 0-5 years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
• High School diploma/GED preferred.
• Warehousing and material handling experience preferred.
• Experience setting up, operating, and troubleshooting metal working machines preferred.
• Ability to show adequate manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination required.
• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions as applied to work situations required.
• Basic measurement skills, including taking, converting, and/or using measurements of length, width, height, and weight to perform basic math computations correctly required.
• Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions required.
• Basic computer proficiency and working knowledge of software applications required.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively required.
• Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including knowledge, experience, and judgment required.
• Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors and co-workers required.

Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Warehouse/Field Setting; minimal temperature environment

Schedule: Monday-Friday 10pm-6:30am

starting pay at $20/hr. quarterly bonus possibility up to $1500
