Facility Supervisor

Phoenix Recycling, LLC
Durango, CO Full Time
POSTED ON 1/24/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/23/2025

Company Summary:

Phoenix Recycling LLC and affiliated companies have provided innovative waste removal and recycling services near Durango, CO since 2001. From the beginning, Phoenix has looked for opportunities to serve the local community, expand recycling opportunities, and increase local employment opportunities by being first and being different. With only a pickup truck and trailer, we were the first to offer recycling services in La Plata County. Then we grew to offer the first shredding services in Durango, the first co-mingled construction waste recycling in Colorado, and then the first privately-owned recycling center in our region. We research and learn from others, but we are never afraid to do things our own way. From hook-lift style roll-offs to split-body collection trucks, from our yard graveled with recycled crushed concrete to the mulch we make from reclaimed pallets, Phoenix Recycling is proud to do things a little differently.

Job Overview:

Position General Summary

The Facility Supervisor works closely with management team to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the recycling facility. This is a non-management position that requires a high level of leadership, responsibility, communication and decision making. The Facility Supervisor must be skilled in the operation of all equipment and company trucks for on-site use.

As the Facility Supervisor for Phoenix Recycling, you will lead the only Material Recovery Facility in Southwest Colorado. You will work side by side with our employees, know everyone by name as well as their personal story, and coach them to excel in their positions. You will be active all day, every day, as you move around the recycling facility solving problems and improving operations.

Your success will eliminate more waste, create more job opportunities, and carry on our tradition for many years to come. Your goal will be to create a safe, fun, supportive and efficient recycling facility. You will accomplish this by working closely with your team and members of the Leadership Team, and building trust with everyone you work with.

Benefits:

In addition to a competitive compensation package, the Facility Supervisor receives paid sick, vacation, annual performance-based bonus, and a 401K with 100% company match.

Close to Durango: Forgot your lunch? Pizza and burritos are 7 minutes away. Want to go to the gym, see a doctor, or meet your family for dinner? The Three Springs development is 15 minutes away.

Rural Location: Enjoy a morning commute that includes 4 miles with more deer than cars as you drive through mostly undeveloped farm and ranch land boasting amazing sunrises and sunsets.

Flexibility: Build your team, accomplish your objectives, and enjoy the flexibility and satisfaction of knowing your team can handle things when you take time for yourself.

Variety: You will wear many hats. Lead a safety meeting, adjust the recycling sort line, solve a problem with the baler, coach an employee about a safety issue, support another employee with their home buying process, consult with the mill-buyer about some loads of cardboard that are ready to ship, plan a facility tour with a group of school kids, meet with a mechanic to see if they have ideas about how to prevent a recurring equipment problem, analyze facility operations to ensure it is on-track, research a solution to improve the recycling process… and then have lunch!

General Requirements:

Characteristics: This is a leadership position that requires high-levels of self-motivation to inspire our employees to excel, while you work mostly independently. You must have the innate desire to serve the employees you supervise, the follow-through to ensure things are completed correctly; the initiative to address problems when they arise; a strong moral compass to guide your decisions; and the flexibility to consider everyone’s input and guide the recycling facility to arrive at the best solution.

Experience: At least four years in a leadership position and experience in a similar work environment is preferred. However, energetic go-getters with natural leadership traits that are committed to learning a new industry will be considered.

Education: All levels of education will be considered, but higher levels of education and/or technical training is preferred.

Skills:

You must be able to perform any task required of any employee you supervise, albeit with less mastery. This includes driving trucks in the yard (CDL not required), operating equipment, sorting recycling on the sort line, sorting construction waste recycling, maintaining equipment, and performing minor equipment repairs, because we believe you can’t teach what you don’t understand from the ground up. In addition, you must be a level-headed leader that engages meaningfully with all aspects of the business to produce outstanding results.
