Title: Thermal Systems – Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description:
This Engineering position is responsible for the technical/engineering facets of the assigned projects in terms of scope, timely delivery, quality, and compliance. This specific role will focus on piping and fluid-carrying connections for cooling and lubrication systems. The role will give end-to-end product ownership and require the design engineer to plan, manage, and execute projects to meet defined parameters and objectives.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Act as the technical authority for various Coolant System related efforts, including NPI efforts, legacy system support and liaise with manufacturers.
- Responsibilities include development and management of various coolant design specifications and field technical publications.
- Willing and able to support hands-on project needs including Component lab testing and On-locomotive validation testing.
- Interactions will include other systems engineering teams, reliability engineering and field support teams.
- Utilize relevant engineering tools including dFMEA, engineering calculations, materials selection, verification & validation, manufacturability & serviceability study while meeting the project schedule & performance requirements.
- Write change orders and interface with product definition and technical publications teams for creation and revisions to documentation.
- Participate as presenter in Tollgate 500 level technical design reviews.
- Drive cross-functional teams to execute critical project milestones, including but not limited to, Design Reviews, validation testing, formulation of new and alternate cooling fluids.
Desired Skills:
- Proficient understanding of thermal systems and computational fluid dynamics.
- Experience managing the design and validation of engine coolants and fluid.
- Experience with managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities.
- Experience in quality control, testing and Six Sigma.
- Ability to take ownership, a readiness, and a willingness to articulate new ideas and concepts to the broader technical teams.
- Familiarity or past experience with combustion engines a significant plus.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related curriculum with associated experience with cooling systems and fluids.
