We are seeking a Thermal Field Application Engineer for our rapidly expanding Electronic Cooling Business. Our solid state cooling solution is used to cool mission critical optical components in telecom, access, datacenter, wireless modules, and for use in the burgeoning market for LiDAR / autonomous driving / vehicle safety. Phononic has major benefits over traditional players in this space from the perspective of power consumption, heat pumping, size / form factor, production capacity (USA / APAC), quality and reliability. The company is already a sole source and / or preferred supplier to the top 10 optical transceiver companies in the world and is similarly engaged with every major LIDAR manufacturer to the automotive sector.

We have a need for a high energy customer facing thermal engineer or material scientist that can engage with the brightest and most progressive minds in the electronic industry. This individual must be confident in their abilities to challenge the status quo while being a catalyst for innovating solutions that solve complex thermal challenges. Traveling with our commercial team, the Field Application Engineer will be the primary customer interface for all technical discussions. They will leverage our vast internal organization of design, process and product engineering to solve our customers’ thermal problems and help drive design wins and revenue growth. This role is for a technical thought leader that knocks down barriers, pulls clarity out of ambiguity and excels in dynamic environments.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities :

  • Clearly communicate abstract concepts to customers with a wide range of technical and non-technical backgrounds.
  • Determine customer requirements (both explicit and implicit) and accurately communicate them back to key engineering team members. Drive product design development incorporating design rules, performance optimization and manufacturing for HVM (high volume manufacturing).
  • Multi-tasking of numerous customer opportunities with the ability to prioritize efforts. Role includes pre- and post- sales support, troubleshooting, debug, qualification, and communicating failure analysis results.
  • Identify the unique thermal challenges facing each application and utilize market insight, technical prowess and the ability to deviate from convention to accelerate our engagements.
  • Must be able to develop and deliver technical presentations, technical education, system hardware demonstration and application notes in support of the Business Unit objectives.
  • Must understand customer design cycles to drive our product design-in opportunities.
  • Leverage extensive personal experience in thermal / mechanical design and material science to become a trusted partner for our customers.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Material Science. M.S. / Ph.D. preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in industries connected to semiconductors, IT Infrastructure and Computing, or Electronic thermal systems. Experience in fiber optics packaging / components preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of successful product design and development for customer facing application support
  • Experience with Laser and Optoelectronic OEMs, ODMs, and EMS providers would be desirable.
  • Must be comfortable in front of customers including Technical Management.
  • Understanding of thermal systems design and integration.
  • Familiarity with Solidworks, MATLAB, FloTHERM, ANSYS and all MS office suite products (Sales tools such as Salesforce.com is a plus).
  • Ability to make sound decisions with little data yet self-motivate to get more data when it is needed.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills – the ability to “think on your feet”.
  • Understanding of the application engineering role as a key component of a BU Sales and Marketing organization.
  • Operate ethically and with integrity.
  • Must be able to travel freely both domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time.
