Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) is seeking a Deputy Vice President (DVP) for its Public Affairs team. The DVP will work across all departments to lead paid media, digital strategy, and performance and environmental reporting in support of all of PhRMA’s issue priorities. They will oversee creative development, strategic implementation, and measurement of campaign success. The individual will manage a multi-million-dollar budget and provide strategic counsel to departments and organization leadership. The DVP will orchestrate targeted advocacy campaigns with the Federal and State teams. They will work with internal stakeholders and member companies to oversee feedback and approvals on priority campaigns and leverage external relationships to the benefit of the organization.
The Deputy Vice President will:
- Oversee paid media planning and buying across channels, outlets and platforms to achieve PhRMA’s advocacy objectives;
- Work with public affairs colleagues to identify social and digital promotion ideas (organic and paid) to ensure that PhRMA’s point of view is both visible and persuasive in the current social conversation;
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including executive team members and colleagues across the organization, to develop comprehensive communication plans and initiatives;
- Oversee all aspects of campaign configuration, launch, and ongoing optimization – including media planning, data-based optimization, budget/billing management, and ad trafficking;
- Act as a key advisor to senior leaders within PhRMA, providing insights, recommendations, and strategies to enhance the organization's paid media efforts;
- Manage campaigns and ensure they’re meeting defined objectives;
- Lead the development of meaningful analytics and reporting to monitor and show progress against organizational goals;
- Maintain knowledge of the digital landscape and evolving paid media trends, consulting public affairs colleagues on the best channels, tactics and digital-first content to persuade target audiences;
- Manage consultant relationships to support digital paid media programs; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Professional Experience / Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Communications, Advertising/Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or related field;
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience within corporate, government, public relations/marketing/advertising agency, or advocacy organization;
- Proven experience leading national advertising and paid media campaigns that require coordination across internal and external teams under tight deadlines;
- Experience in developing and placing TV, print, digital and social media advertising;
- Experience managing the work of and resources for multiple consultants and direct reports;
- Exceptional writing and editing skills and the ability to write for disparate audiences and channels both strategically and creatively;
- Proven organizational and project management skills; and
- Collaborative team player who can also work independently, be a self‐starter, take initiative, and set priorities.
Potential Salary
$187,100-$266,700 per annum. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
