Overview
Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) is seeking a Director or Senior Director in its Policy and Research Department to lead research that demonstrates the value of innovative prescription medicines and supports policies to ensure robust medication coverage and reimbursement, a competitive biopharmaceutical market, and a stable US regulatory environment. The individual will report to the Deputy Vice President, Policy and Research and will play a key role in developing PhRMA research agendas. This visible role requires extensive collaboration across PhRMA and with member companies.
The Director / Senior Director will:
- Develop and execute actionable research agendas to support industry policy priorities, including federal and state price controls (e.g., Inflation Reduction Act, state Prescription Drug Affordability Boards), biopharmaceutical R&D, and medication access and affordability;
- Manage consultant and third-party research projects;
- Collaborate with member companies, consultants, academic researchers, and health policy thought leaders to ensure PhRMA work products reflect the strongest evidence and research methods;
- Develop talking points, backgrounders, and other educational materials to support federal advocacy efforts.
- Work with PhRMA’s Public Affairs team to develop press materials and with PhRMA’s Alliance team to support cross-stakeholder collaboration;
- Rapidly respond to requests for information from member companies and PhRMA leadership and colleagues under tight timelines;
- Help coordinate and track PhRMA and third-party research and disseminate findings to PhRMA colleagues, leadership, and member companies; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Professional Experience / Requirements
- Master’s degree in public policy, economics, business administration, health services research, public health, or related field;
- 5 years of experience in healthcare research, policy analysis, or biopharmaceutical industry economics;
- Experience managing third-party research efforts;
- Excellent writing and editing skills;
- Experience creating advocacy support materials, such as talking points, policy briefs, etc.;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent qualitative and quantitative analysis skills;
- Experience working with healthcare survey or claims data; and
- Microsoft Office Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred Experience
- PhD in health services research, economics, public health, or related field;
- Understanding of the Department of Health and Human Services, Congress and federal and state health policy process;
- Prior experience at a pharmaceutical company, commercial health plan, pharmacy benefit manager, consulting firm, or related industry environment.
