What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mobility Equipment Specialist ATP position at Physicians Choice Home Medical Supply?
An Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) is a specialized role focused on evaluating, recommending, and providing assistive technology solutions for individuals with disabilities. ATPs play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for their clients by enabling greater independence and improving functional capabilities. This will be a 1099 contract position and will require a person to work 5 to 20 hours per week.
Client Evaluation and Assessment
- Conduct thorough evaluations of clients’ functional needs, physical abilities, and environmental factors.
- Collaborate with clients, caregivers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to determine the most appropriate assistive technology solutions.
- Assess client medical histories, physical limitations, and daily activities to identify challenges and opportunities for improvement.
2. Equipment Recommendation
- Recommend assistive devices, mobility aids, seating systems, communication devices, and other technologies to address specific client needs.
3. Equipment Procurement and Customization
- Source, order, and oversee the delivery of recommended assistive technology.
- Perform or supervise the fitting, adjustment, and customization of equipment to ensure proper functionality and client comfort.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with equipment as needed.
4. Education and Training
- Train clients, families, and caregivers on the proper use, maintenance, and care of assistive devices.
- Provide education to healthcare professionals and other stakeholders about assistive technology and its benefits.
5. Compliance and Documentation
- Maintain thorough records of client evaluations, recommendations, and follow-up activities.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, standards, and ethical guidelines, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance policies.
- Prepare and submit accurate documentation to support funding approvals and reimbursement.
6. Client Support and Follow-Up
- Provide ongoing support to clients, addressing questions, concerns, and changing needs.
- Schedule regular follow-ups to assess equipment effectiveness and make necessary adjustments.
- Facilitate repairs or replacements as required.
7. Professional Development
- Stay up-to-date on advancements in assistive technology, industry trends, and best practices.
- Participate in training sessions, certification renewals, and professional development opportunities.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Certification: Must hold the RESNA (Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America) ATP certification.
- Experience: 2 years of experience in assistive technology, rehabilitation, or a related field.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of assistive technology devices, mobility systems, and adaptive equipment.
Work Environment
- Settings: May work in clinics, hospitals, clients’ homes, schools, or other community settings.
- Physical Requirements: Frequent lifting, bending, and standing when working with equipment and clients.
- Customize solutions to align with clients’ medical requirements, personal goals, and insurance coverage.
- Provide detailed documentation of recommendations, including rationale and expected outcomes.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $24.42 - $26.84 per hour
