About the Role

Position Title/Job Function: Nutrition Associate

Position Objective: Provide administrative and program support to the Nutrition department.

About the Nutrition Team: Over the past three decades, the Physicians Committee's nutrition department has achieved many important successes. We have contributed to the elimination of the "meat group" in federal nutrition guidelines, carried out clinical research studies that have revolutionized the treatment of diabetes, and provided the scientific foundation for the health benefits of plant-based diets. We aim to propel continued progress through direct patient care, nutrition education, and advocacy.

Essential Functions:

Provide remote and in-office administrative and program support to the nutrition team, including scheduling and setting up for meetings, handling a large volume of correspondence, and supporting the team's wide variety of activities and outreach initiatives. Support administrative requests from executive leadership.

Program Support: Support all the nutrition team's initiatives, including but not limited to:

  • Participate in the brainstorming, strategy, and planning sessions for virtual and in-person events.
  • Coordinate on special projects for executive leadership.
  • Draft promotional or programmatic emails for events and facilitating a cross-departmental review process.
  • Create and analyze surveys for event attendees.
  • Conduct preliminary research on nutrition topics to support content development for educational material.
  • Coordinate speaking requests, logistics, and preparation of internal and external speakers at events.
  • Serve as main point of contact at outreach events, sharing literature and talking to participants confidently about the mission and program offerings.
  • Support schedule and speaker coordination for online One Healthy World program.
  • Support the Let's Beat Breast Cancer campaign and support logistics of the nationwide "Beat the Drum for Breast Cancer Prevention" rally program.
  • Support event and speaker coordination for the annual International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine (ICNM) and provide in-person support at the annual event.
  • Support scheduling the Physicians Committee's presence at conferences.

Administrative Support:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for public inquiries, members, and program participants and handle a large volume of correspondence from calls, email, postal, and interoffice mail.
  • Build a foundation of organization for all nutrition team activities by preparing materials for meetings, programs, and outreach events.
  • Ensure that vendors and independent contractors are paid promptly through key accounts payable support tasks.
  • Serve as the lead journal article retriever, including locating urgent breaking medical news articles from academic databases upon request, coordinating across departments as needed.
  • Coordinate meetings.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Required Physical Abilities: Office work plus setting up information tables at conferences and other events, which includes the ability to lift 25 pounds.

Work Location: This position requires some work to be performed at our headquarters in Washington, D.C. (Friendship Heights on Metro's Red Line). In-person functions are estimated to be once per week and are subject to change.

Required Travel: Approximately quarterly to conferences or health fairs, and annual travel to our ICNM conference.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time exempt position (40 hours per week). The Physicians Committee's core business hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, ET.

Position Level: Associate

Salary: A salary offer will take into consideration education, experience, and skills along with internal and external reference points. Candidates are encouraged to discuss salary with a position's hiring manager early in the interview process to ensure alignment.

  • Minimum: $65,000
  • Maximum: $68,000

Reports To: Vice President of Nutrition Programs
