Since 1955, PhysLab (Physicians Laboratory Services) has provided reliable laboratory services to eastern Nebraska and western Iowa and currently operates two laboratory locations in Omaha and Lincoln with over 165 employees. We take pride in our employees and our work and are looking to expand our team by adding a Clinical Processing Technician to our lab in Omaha.
This is a Monday through Friday, 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM evening shift. The technician is also scheduled for an occasional rotating weekend day shift. Priority consideration will be given to the applicant available to permanently work an adjusted schedule that includes Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
This is a benefits-eligible position with evening and weekend shift differential. Evening and Saturday rate with shift differential is $17.25/hr. Base pay is $15/hr.
The Clinical Processing Technician receives, accurately processes, and efficiently distributes patient laboratory specimens to the appropriate departments for analysis. The technician works within the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to electronically enter laboratory orders, to document order resolutions, contact with clients, or releases of information. The processing technician fields phone calls from clients with professionalism and a readiness to assist. They also work cooperatively with laboratory technologists to clarify specimen and order issues.
Physicians Laboratory operates 365 days per year, with limited services and personnel on recognized holidays. The processing technician is typically scheduled to work one two brief holiday shifts per year, dependent upon staffing levels.
Essential Functions
- Receive, sort, aliquot, and distribute specimens requiring visual acuity and manual dexterity to the appropriate departments or reference laboratories for analysis.
- Ensure specimens are labeled properly and the correct specimen has been submitted for the requested laboratory test by comparing the specimen label to the accompanying requisition.
- Facilitate requested changes from clients or other staff personnel.
- Use PC to enter laboratory test orders into LIS.
- Maintain confidentiality of all laboratory information according to laboratory policy and Federal regulations.
Job requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent—courses in biology or related life sciences, familiarity with basic medical terminology, or experience in the medical field helpful but not required.

- Provide professional and courteous customer service.
- Basic computer skills to learn to utilize LIS for order entry and various test directories to access specimen requirements.
- Mandatory use of personal protective equipment in handling blood and body fluids.
- Compliance with OSHA and laboratory safety procedures.
