Medical Assistant – Summary:
The Medical Assistant will play a very important role in the daily operations of providing physician support to our LTC skilled nursing or assisted living location. The Medical Assistant will help deliver quality care by working within a team supporting both the Medical Doctor and Nurse Practitioner. The overall goal is to assist in setting up and executing comprehensive medical plans. The Medical Assistant acts as an extension of the providers and aids in increasing the efficiency of the providers.
Medical Assistant - Responsibilities:
- Manage and schedule provider visits for MD/NP on a daily basis as well as scheduling out visits based on Medicare requirements and PSG guidelines
- Obtain facility daily nursing reports regarding acute patients and RX refills several times per day
- Input new patient’s data including demographic and insurance information into the EMR
- Act as Liaison between the facility administrator, therapist and social worker helping to identify and execute daily task to ensure smooth operations
- Maintain business professionalism and etiquette as well as adhering to HIPAA standards as it relates to patient data
- Obtain all reports including DME, Insurance verification, prior authorization, labs, radiology to be reviewed and signed by the providers
- Work directly with facility to coordinate referrals and hospital follow-ups
- Assist with the collection of insurance billing information
- Provide support to all providers by assisting with collaborating credentialing documents that need provider signature
- New admissions: obtain DC summary, hospital medical reconciliation and create new patient encounter within EMR. Transcribe key DC summary information using voice recognition into the HP. This includes hospital course, updated meds, allergies, Past medical history, Past surgical history, Social History. Add facility DNR packet and PSG competency certificate to each admission encounter
- Enter Daily vitals into EMR platform
- Print and place all encounters from the day before on the charts at the facility
- eRX prescriptions with provider oversite/guidance when applicable
- Coordinate Discharge schedules with the facility and the providers including key DME requirements
- Coordinate PSG DC summaries via eFax to primary care and specialist
Medical Assistant – Qualifications:
- MA certification preferred
- High School graduate and CNA certification preferred
- 2 years of experience working for a LTC Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living Facility, healthcare practice or hospital
- Familiarity with electronic medical health care record systems (i.e. EMR experience)
- A basic understanding of patient care, coding procedures, reference tools, and appropriate clinical pharmacology for medical assistant practice scope
- Needs to be able to multi-task and maintain strict organization
- Adaptable to schedule changes and variations during the day
- Medical Terminology knowledge for scribing
