We are seeking a skilled underwriter to join our Phyton Talent Advisors team as a Loan Underwriting Director. This leadership role requires a deep understanding of mortgage lending and a proven track record of success in underwriting.
About the Job:
- The Loan Underwriting Director will oversee the entire underwriting process, ensuring that all loans meet our company's risk tolerance and regulatory requirements.
- This leader will also be responsible for developing and maintaining standardized underwriting procedures to ensure consistency and efficiency across the team.
- The successful candidate will have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess credit risk effectively while balancing business needs and investor requirements.
- Additionally, they will leverage AI and automation tools to improve efficiency and streamline workflows, manage underwriting data and analytics to track trends and improve risk assessment, and collaborate with Sales, Processing, and Capital Markets to align underwriting with investor buy-boxes.
- Responsibilities Include:
- Leading and managing the underwriting team, including the India team
- Developing and enforcing standardized underwriting procedures for consistency and efficiency
- Assessing credit risk effectively while balancing business needs and investor requirements
- Leveraging AI and automation tools to improve efficiency and streamline workflows
- Managing underwriting data and analytics to track trends and improve risk assessment
- Collaborating with Sales, Processing, and Capital Markets to align underwriting with investor buy-boxes
- Setting clear escalation guidelines to reduce bottlenecks while maintaining strong risk oversight
Requirements:
- Proven experience underwriting fix & flip, DSCR, and bridge loans
- Strong data and tech skills – comfortable with LOS systems, AI underwriting tools, and reporting dashboards
- Process-driven mindset – can develop and enforce standardized underwriting procedures
- Understanding of AI-based credit models and where human judgment is required
- Excellent decision-making ability – able to assess risk without over-conditioning deals
- Leadership and training experience – can scale and mentor an underwriting team
- Cross-functional collaboration skills – works closely with Sales, Processing, and Capital Markets
- Ability to scale underwriting operations and ensure efficient knowledge transfer
