Job Summary

Piazza’s Fine Foods (“Piazza’s”), a growing two-store specialty grocery operation in the Bay Area, is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Controller to join our team. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards, and providing strategic financial insights to support business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management:

Oversee the preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.

Manage all accounting operations, including A/R, A/P, GL, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.

Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to senior management and store-level leadership.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

Develop and manage annual budgets and forecasts.

Monitor and analyze financial performance against the budget, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations.

Coordinate and manage external audits.

Cash Flow Management:

Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed.

Manage banking relationships and negotiate financing options as required.

Strategic Planning:

Provide strategic financial analysis to support business decisions.

Collaborate with senior management on business development and growth initiatives.

Team Leadership:

Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team.

Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

Experience in the retail or grocery industry is highly desirable.

Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.

Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
