Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Ensure mechanical integrity and overall plant operation compliance with regulations, OEM specifications, and industry safety practices.
- Take decisive corrective action to protect personnel and property, preventing hazardous or catastrophic events whenever possible.
- Communicate effectively with licensed operators, plant management, and corporate entities both orally and in writing.
- Assign daily tasks, including equipment health checks, housekeeping, and repairs, to outside operators.
- Recognize and address unsafe conditions or anomalies in the plant promptly.
- Provide essential remedial training for operators in the interest of safety and professional development.
- Issue oral and written instructions to plant personnel, logging all activities in the daily logbook.
- Familiarity with High-Pressure Boiler, Pressure Vessel, and EPA environmental regulations.
- Organize first response in case of an incident, maintaining records and reporting as per plant procedures.
- Ensure the quality of outside operator plant startup checks and daily plant equipment inspections.
- Oversee plant startup, shutdown, and economic operation according to OEM requirements.
- Generate Work Orders for equipment malfunctions, locate spare parts in the warehouse, and assist in inventory checks using a computerized system.
- Possess knowledge of the steam-water cycle, gas turbine operation, critical parameters, and limitations.
- Complete assigned training on time.
- Experience with using DCS control systems, including alarm checks, trend creation, and troubleshooting.
- Proven experience as a control room operator in a power plant, with a preference for expertise in natural gas combined cycle technology.
- Familiarity with GE 7E frame turbines.
- Must be in possession of a MA 2nd class Engineer license or NJ Red or Gold Seal license
- Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment and communicate effectively.
- Comprehensive understanding of safety protocols and proficiency in emergency response procedures.
- Must consistently work a 12-hour rotating DuPont shift schedule.
- Walk, stand, kneel, stoop without difficulty.
- Be able to tolerate noise commonly found in a power plant setting.
- Be able to manage temperature extremes.
- Be able to lift up to 50#
- High school diploma or equivalent; further technical education or a degree in a related field is advantageous.
- 5 years as a control room operator in a power plant.
- Expertise in natural gas combined cycle technology strongly preferred.
