PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
To provide customer assistance in bagging groceries, parcel pick-up service,
collection of carts and to provide support in maintaining clean and safe store conditions.
NATURE AND SCOPE
Emphasis in this position is on ensuring customer service for bagging of groceries
in the proper manner, placing of groceries in automobile in the proper manner (when
parcel pick-up), collection of carts from parking lot in a safe manner and ensuring safe and clean store conditions by mopping, sweeping, scrubbing and pulling cardboard. This position requires ongoing heavy lifting and pushing, walking, exposure to outside conditions and wet surfaces, use of cleaning equipment, social skills/verbal interaction and judgment/decision making. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. Daily assignments and work direction are provided by the Store Director or person in charge.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
1. Provides friendly and efficient customer service by demonstrating sincerity, patience and respect in all customer interactions.
2. Throughout the store, greets customers in a genuine and friendly manner. Learns
customer names and uses them respectfully in greetings.
3. Assists customers throughout the store by:
- Escorting them to products they are looking for
- Loading or unloading heavy items and assisting with products that are out of reach
- Offering product and/or recipe suggestions and recommendations
- Responding to customers’ questions and requests in a timely manner
- Treating them as the most important people in the store
4. Sincerely thanks customers for their business and choosing our store.
5. Demonstrates teamwork to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant working and shopping environment
6. Ensures customer service for bagging of groceries asks if paper or plastic
- uses the least amount of bags
- watches the weight of the bag
7. Ensures that carts are available for customers * Collects carts in a safe manner and transports to cart room
- Ensures a ten cart maximum
- Removes all debris from carts
- Maintains a clean and dry sales floor at all times
- Answers all clean up calls promptly
- Cleans up messes and spills promptly and thoroughly
9. Assists customers with questions * Answers questions or assists customers with product location
10. Refers customers to the proper area or individual for help
11. Assists customers with bagging and carrying out groceries (parcel pick-up)
12. Environmental exposure to outside conditions
13. Maintains proper shelf presentation and accessibility for stock by removing unnecessary cardboard
- Removes empty/nearly empty product boxes off shelves and condenses
shelf stock * Breaks cardboard down and collects in bin
- Places cardboard in proper area
- Performs shop back duties
14. Removes and disposes of trash * Collects trash from inside and outside of the store
- Transports collected trash in bins to compactor and disposes of properly
- (must be 18 yrs. or older of age for disposal)
15. Utilizes personal protective devices (chemical resistant gloves, safety glasses/ * goggles, rubber over boots, chemical splash goggles)
16. Follows all store and department policies and procedures
17. Performs other miscellaneous duties
- Cleans front-end
- Stocks bags at end of registers
- Does shop backs
- Cleans bathrooms
- Picks up trash
- Performs weeding
Functional Requirements * Frequent: Physical - lifting/carrying 50 to 100 lbs., pushing/pulling 70 to
650 lbs., equipment operation (carts, mop, broom, dust mop, scraper, compactor, bags, cleaning utensils), stooping/bending, reaching, walking, turning, kneeling, Mental - judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, reading, writing, math Environmental - exposure to outside conditions * Occasional: Physical – standing, walking on uneven ground, squatting,
kneeling, pushing/pulling 650 to 1000 lbs.
18. Education and or Experience
- -High school education (or concurrent enrollment in an educational institution)
