Job Summary
This position is in the county's solid waste collection and recycling operations.
Major Duties
- Opens and closes the recycling center.
- Directs the general public in the proper separation of recyclable items.
- Monitors loads to ensure compliance with facility policies and procedures.
- Answers telephone and greets customers; provides information and assistance.
- Operates trash compactors.
- Operate and perform duties to run the infeed system and correctly operate the Harris Baler.
- Operate the Hyster and be able to do preventative maintenance.
- Operate the Skid Steer and be able to do preventative maintenance.
- Operate the Trac Hoe and be able to do preventative maintenance.
- Stacks Tires.
- Safely operates the paper shredder.
- Assists in the maintenance of workplace and grounds; picks up litter around dumpsters.
- Sweeps and mops floors.
- Performs related duties and or any assigned duties and or any assigned duties
- The ability to operate in a constant state of alertness and safe manner

Supervisory Controls
The Recycling Supervisor assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the results.
Guidelines
Guidelines include health and safety guidelines, recycling rules, and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
Complexity/Scope of Work
- The work consists of related customer service and technical duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the work.
- The purpose of this position is to participate in the county’s recycling and solid waste collection operations. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.

- Contacts are typically with co-workers, contractors, customers, and the general public.
- Contacts are typically to exchange information and provide services.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee must frequently lift light and heavy objects and distinguish between shades of color.
- The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, and inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as gloves, goggles, and safety vests.

Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent
- Experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid drivers license issued by the Stat of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
