Job Objectives
The A.R.C.C., under the supervision of the Resident Care Coordinator, directs and implements care in the assisted living area, directs nursing staff, is able to administer routine and emergency services ensuring the highest degree of resident care.
Job Standards
1. Must be licensed to practice nursing in the State of Maryland.
2. Must have at least two years’ experience in the assisted living arena.
3. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
4. Must possess current CPR certification.
5. Demonstrate competency in leadership, supervisory and management skills.
6. Sincere interest in working with the elderly; knowledge and understanding of the aging process and the aged.
Job Functions
Administrative:
1. Assure the optimum clinical care for residents through careful planning and effective interpersonal development. This includes self-med resident reviews for Personal Care and Wing 4.
2. Develop methods for coordination of nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care. Responsible for updating assignment sheets for Personal Care and (wing 4 if applicable).
3. Provide status reports to the Resident Care Coordinator on assisted living residents.
4. Responsible for assuring accurate recording of medications and narcotics according to procedure.
5. Responsible for direct handling of emergency situations.
6. Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations.
7. Conduct conferences with resident and/or family members as necessary.
8. Assist R.C.C. with regular staff meetings regarding changes in residents’ condition and monthly staff meetings for ALF personnel.
9. Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary. Perform random chart audits to assure proper documentation to include weekly charting by charge nurses for PC.
10. Assist with coordination of admissions and discharges of residents.
11. Responsible for monthly turnover for all residents.
12. Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.
13. Assess accidents involving residents, employees and visitors.
14. Work effectively with residents, their families and staff members.
15. Assist and supervise, evaluate performance of and discipline assigned personnel.
16. Provide assessment on residents’ level of care and make determinations in coordination with the D.N.
17. Complete RATS, service plans and 45 day reviews for 3rd floor wing 4 ALF residents and PC.
18. Participate in Pharmacy review reports.
19. Assist R.C.C. with inservices to staff and assist in on-the-job training.
20. Stimulate interest and attitudes of personnel to develop understanding of resident needs.
Nursing:
1. Provide RCC with information relative to the nursing needs of the resident and the nursing services department’s ability to meet those needs.
2. Inform nursing personnel of new admissions, their expected time of arrival, room assignment, etc. Serve as an advisor on admission decisions
3. Make certain that rooms are ready for new admissions.
4. Greet newly admitted residents upon admission. Escort to room as necessary.
5. Make certain that direct nursing care is provided by licensed nursing personnel.
6. Review nurses’ notes to ensure that they are informative and descriptive of the nursing care being provided, that they reflect the resident’s response to the care, and that such care is provided in accordance with the resident’s wishes.
7. Provide direct nursing care as necessary.
8. Observe, record, report, treat symptoms, and reactions of residents.
9. Make certain that physician orders are carried out.
10. Other duties as required of a Delegating Nurse.
Committee Functions
1. Serve on, participate in, and attend various committees of the facility as assigned.
2. Provide written and/or oral reports of the nursing service programs and activities as required, or as may be directed by such committee(s).
Work Setting/Environment
The A.R.C.C. works in an environment where there is frequent exposure to blood, body tissues and other potentially infectious fluids. There is some exposure to loud and unpleasant noise, dust and chemicals. May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members or visitors. Extensive contact with residents and staff
Equipment Used
Telephone, computer, intercom, Hoyer lift, adjustable beds, wheelchairs.
Physical Requirements
1. Able to communicate and respond clearly on telephone
2. Able to discern colors in fire panel, warning labels and lights and respond to emergency procedure instructions.
3. Able to lift, transfer, feed and bathe residents, and make bed under short staffed situations and emergencies
4. Able to read service plans, charts, directions, labels and assess residents.
5. Able to maintain a specified level of care for residents (numbers of residents vary per assignment).
6. The ability to physically transfer, lift, or assist residents whose average weight is 160 pounds.
7. Able to push residents in wheelchairs with total weight of 250 pounds throughout the building.
8. Able to walk, stoop, twist, bend and squat to perform essential job functions #1, 3, 4, 5 and 15.
9. Able to respond to resident’s spoken and unspoken needs, emergency procedure instructions and to use the intercom.
10. Able to deal with combative resident.

Hours of Work
Full time 40 hours per week: Weekend on call rotation with nursing leadership team is required for the community. Will be on call as needed.

Employee Responsibility in an Emergency:
Able to respond to fire system and follow emergency procedures. All employees need to respond to emergency situations immediately and capably for the safety of the residents and staff. Must be able to walk stairs to evacuate residents.
