What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kayak Guide position at Pictured Rocks Kayaking?
Join Pictured Rocks Kayaking for one of the best seasonal positions on Lake Superior! 2024 Seasonal position starting in May/June to October. We are the only kayak and boat tour all in one. We bring people to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore by boat to the best parts for a kayaking adventure. Our boats stay with the tour for the duration making this comfortable and a safe way to enjoy the adventure.
Pictured Rocks Kayaking is looking for outgoing individuals to be guides and deckhands. We have a friendly and professional environment based on teamwork. We train extremely hard for a safety first mindset regarding kayak training and boat safety. We are a great group of people that are not afraid of hard work and enjoy being on the water.
REQUIREMENTS
- First Aid CPR Certification - we will train/pay on our scheduled date if not certified
- Pass pre-employment Drug test and random tests through the season
*** medical marijuana card does not qualify
- Must be willing to work long days
- Must have positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Must be able to swim and carry 50 lbs
- Must have patience and humor and the ability to be social with guests
TASKS
- Setup for daily tour operations
- Gear prep and coordination with guests and office staff/captain
- Greet guests with introduction and hand out gear
- Provide Safety demonstration prior to boarding the boat
- Loading and unloading customers in and out of their kayaks
- Provide detailed narration along the guided tour
- Guide a group of 6 kayaks (12 people) along the Pictured Rocks Shoreline
- Learn and discuss with guests the history, facts and rock formations names
- Take photos of customers during the tour
- Basic boat cleaning and maintenance before and after tour
- Cleaning equipment
- Train, understand and practive kayak drills and uscg boat drills
- Engage with customers on that boat
- Basic knowledge of Munising and the attractions
We are hiring both deckhands and guides. Deckhands will remain on the boat with Captain during the tours. Competitive wage, overtime, and a bonus if you work through the end of September.
