What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Medical Assistant/Surgical Scheduler position at Piedmont Colorectal Associates?
We are seeking a highly organized and emotionally mature Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our growing Colorectal Practice. As a key member of our clinical team, the CMA will be responsible for providing high-quality care to our patients, supporting our providers, and ensuring the efficient operation of the practice. In addition to traditional CMA duties, this position will also include coordinating colonoscopy scheduling and obtaining prior authorizations for procedures.
Key responsibilities:
Clinical duties:
Take and record patient vitals, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, weight, height, and reason for visit.
Assist with patient exams as directed by the provider.
Prepare patients for procedures, ensuring they understand the process and feel comfortable.
Assist in performing routine clinical tasks
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient interactions, medical histories, and test results in EPIC EMR
Prepare and clean exam rooms, sterilize medical instruments, and ensure that medical supplies are stocked.
Colonoscopy Coordination:
Schedule colonoscopy for patients
Provide pre-procedure instructions to patients, ensuring they are well-prepared for the procedure
Work closely with the provider to schedule appointments according to patient needs and the practice's capacity.
Confirm procedure dates with patients, ensuring they know any required preparations and follow-ups.
Prior authorization:
Obtain prior authorizations for colonoscopies and any other procedures as necessary.
Communicate with insurance companies to verify patient coverage and coordinate approvals.
Ensure all required documentation is submitted accurately and on time.
Follow up on pending authorizations to ensure timely approvals and resolve any issues.
Administrative Duties:
Manage patient flow and assist with the check-in/check-our process
Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and handle patient inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
Maintain patient records and ensure compliance with confidentiality and privacy regulations (HIPAA)
Work with the office team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and enhance the patient experience.
Produce Medical records as requested.
Patient Relations:
Serve as a primary point of contact for patients, providing exceptional customer service and answering questions with professionalism and care.
Address patient concerns and assist in resolving issues to enhance patient satisfaction.
Foster a compassionate and supportive environment for all patients, ensuring they feel comfortable and cared for.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be certified CMA with valid certification from a recognized institution.
Previous experience as a CMA
EPIC EMR user
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to detail.
Ability to handle sensitive patient information with discretion and professionalism
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Excellent customer service skills
Strong work ethic, reliability, and a proactive approach to responsibilities.
Salary : $40,000 - $50,000
