RESPONSIBLE FOR :
Performs necessary duties in scrub role. Takeson greater responsibility in providing patient care demonstrating ahigher level critical thinking and problem solving skills.Functions in partnership with licensed staff. Performs patient careduties for clients of various age groups under the direction of aregistered nurse.
KEYRESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Meets the criteria stated in Level1.
2. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and proficientpractice in the first scrub role the in majority of surgicalprocedures.
a. Prepares for each surgical procedure in anaccurate, aseptically prioritized and timely manner, includingreviewing and utilizing appropriate preference cards, obtainingsupplies, instruments and setting up.
b. Facilitates thesurgical procedure by draping, passing instruments andsutures.
c. Ensures post procedure activities arecompleted by completion of counts, appropriate care of specimens,instruments and equipment.
3. Functions in partnershipwith licensed staff.
a. Facilitates continuity ofprocedure and functioning of other health care team members whichincludes maintaining an organized back table, giving a briefconcise report when relieved and anticipating surgeonneeds.
b. Observes patients condition and immediatelyreports any changes or significant findings to the physician andRegistered Nurse.
c. Serves as patient advocate includingpatient care and safety.
d. Supports licensed staff asrequested by utilizing skills and equipment in which he / she iscompetent.
e. Assists in transportingpatients.
f. Applies knowledge of advanced surgicaltechniques and those cases related to emergency situations andsurgical procedures in the operating room.
4. Performspatient care duties for clients of various age groups under thedirection of a registered nurse.
a. Supports licensedstaff by performing treatments or procedures as delegated and onlythose which he / she is competent and in a safe, accurate and timelymanner; this includes clipping, prepping surgical site andpositioning of patient.
b. Successfully completes theage-specific study modules.
c. Uses appropriate languagewhen communicating with specific age patient.
d.Appropriately modifies the approach to patients when performingspecific procedures / tasks.
e. Uses appropriate equipmentand resources for the specific age, when performing procedures andproviding information.
f. Appropriately provides comfortand safety measures for specific age patient.
5. Maintainscompetence.
a. Exhibits a higher level of collaborationwith peers in making decisions related to surgical patientcare.
b. Retains new information and implements newprocesses or use new equipment.
6. Performs otheressential duties.
a. Serves as a preceptor for peers onthe surgical services team and new orienting employees.
b.Prepares case carts according to procedure and preferencecards.
c. Prepares OR room and other areas (as needed) forreceiving patients, which includes stocking, cleaning equipment orstorage areas, turns OR room over, orders / requests supplies,preparing instruments for future procedures, notification ofspecialty staff regarding needed instrumentation orequipment.

Skill and ability to communicate effectivelyboth verbally and in-writing.
Independently first scrubsbasic surgical procedures in all surgical specialties.
Demonstrates ability to problem-solve in relation to the procedurebeing performed.
Applies base knowledge of anatomy andphysiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology foroptimal surgical patient care.
Demonstrates knowledge andpractice of patient care concepts.
Applies the principlesof sterile technique during surgical procedures.
Skilland ability to handle multiple priorities, self-directed, and applyindependent judgment.
Ability to work as a member of ateam.
Ability to adapt quickly to changingsituations.
Skill and ability in basic computerskills.
Qualifications :
MINIMUMEDUCATION REQUIRED :
High School graduate or GED.
Graduate of a Surgical Technologyprogram.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCEREQUIRED :
Certification as a SurgicalTechnologist or 3 years of surgical tech experiencerequired.
MINIMUMLICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BYLAW :
N / A
ADDITIONALQUALIFICATIONS :
Certification as a SurgicalTechnologist preferred
BLS certificationrequired.
