Piedmont Green Power, LLC “PGP” owns a 55MW biomass-fired generating facility located in Barnesville, Georgia, approximately 70 miles southeast of Atlanta. PGP commenced operations in 2013 and sells power to Georgia Power Company, through a long‐term offtake contract. PGP utilizes approximately 500,000 tons of woody biomass annually, consisting of urban wood waste, mill, and logging residues. As of December 2023, PGP became wholly owned by Pacolet Milliken, LLC.

Job Overview:

Responsible for operating fuel and ash handling equipment for receiving, stacking, and transporting fuel and ash. Operates and maintains large mobile equipment necessary to supply fuel to the plant conveyor system. Inspects and performs preventative and minor maintenance on mobile equipment and conveyor systems when not fueling the plant. Works rotating 12-hour shifts, overtime, and irregular hours outside the normal shift rotation as needed to support reliable facility operations, callouts, or planned maintenance outages.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Operates fuel and/or ash handling equipment which may include wheel loaders, track driven dozers, and various machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Receives, unloads, mixes, stages, and stacks/stores fuel in a manner consistent with established fuel handling procedures.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on mobile/fuel train equipment routinely and thoroughly.
  • Maintains accurate operational logs on mobile equipment, as required.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area; regularly cleans, sweeps, picks up conveyor spillage, unplugs choke points, and reports or resolves any unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Cleans mobile and fuel yard equipment as required.
  • Performs inspection and maintenance activities on all equipment in accordance with established schedules or as needed.
  • Reclaims fuel as necessary to support overall plant operation.
  • Performs scale house functions, including obtaining and labeling fuel samples, as required.
  • Performs other comparable non-operating duties during plant shutdown.
  • Responds to alarms in a timely manner; operates firefighting equipment as necessary and within reason.
  • Follows all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains professional competence in the field of power plant operations.
  • Maintains a safe work environment through job planning, housekeeping, and identification and correction of hazards.
  • Adheres to all applicable health & safety, environmental, and administrative policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Assists in development of Plant Operating Procedures.
  • Follows proper event notification and communication protocols to management.
  • Answers the telephone, when necessary, in a professional manner.
  • Attends morning, monthly, and quarterly meetings.
  • Attends training and implements and pursues personal development goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Specific Skills:

  • Knowledgeable in equipment isolation and LOTO procedures.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledgeable in the proper use of plant safety equipment.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with little or no direct supervision.
  • Ability to manage employees and shifting priorities.

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Minimum Experience:

2 years of experience in operating heavy equipment is preferred.

Valid driver's license

Physical Requirements:

Posses close visual acuity and acuity to operate machinery. Have visual acuity to make general observations of facilities or structures. Have the ability to stand, walk, balance, crouch, kneel, stoop, climb, crawl, reach, grasp, finger, feel, talk, hear, pull, push, repetitive motion, and lift at least 80 lbs.

Working Conditions:

Subject to activities in hot, cold, noisy, and dark environments both inside and outside; noise levels where one may need to shout to be heard, hazards such as moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in high places, working in close quarters, narrow passageways, vibration, fumes, odors, dusts, oil gases, and wear a respirator.

Job Type: Full-Time

Shift Schedule: The work schedule will be rotating 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays with overtime, and irregular hours outside the normal shift rotation as needed to support reliable facility operations, callouts, or planned maintenance outages. Shifts are typically 7:00am to 7:00pm and 7:00pm to 7:00am.
