About Position : Housed within one of the largest Federally Qualified Health Center organizations in North Carolina, the Piedmont Health Services WIC Program supports a large perinatal and pediatric population in Chatham and Orange Counties. This contracted partnership role is also an integral part of the Chatham Hospital team working towards Baby Friendly hospital designation status, with support from ENRICH Carolinas and EMPower Best Practices Training Initiatives.     Schedule :

    Monday : 8am – 5pm, Tuesday : 8am - 5pm, Wednesday : 8am – 5pm, Thursday : 8am – 8pm, Friday : 8am - 12pm

  • Travel : As needed
  • Duties / Responsibilities -

  • The Lead WIC Nutritionist / Lactation Consultant is responsible for performing a variety of tasks involving program eligibility, determination of nutrition risk through comprehensive nutrition assessments, food package prescriptions, and culturally concordant counseling of WIC participants in nutrition principals, diet, food selection, and lactation.
  • Provides WIC & lactation support services as part of a cross-departmental interdisciplinary healthcare team within the various PHS Community Health Center sites.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with PHS clinic and organizational leadership, as well as partnering community aid organizations to support the broad health and socio / economic needs of WIC participant population, the WIC Program and the greater PHS organization.
  • As a licensed International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), the Lead WIC Nutritionist / Lactation Consultant will provide part-time inpatient clinical lactation support and onsite WIC services in partnership with UNC Chatham Hospital, in their small, rural Maternity Care Center.
  • Qualifications -

    Education : Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education - approved Didactic Program in Dietetics; or Dietetic Technician, Registered with the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education with a Bachelor's degree in any subject area from an accredited four-year college or university; or a Bachelor's of Science degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university.

    Required :

  • Requires frequent sitting for long periods, operation of standard office and computer equipment.
  • May require lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Requires knowledge of Microsoft Office software program suite.
  • Requires normal vision range.
  • Work is performed in an office / clinical environment.
  • Contact with staff and external clients and vendors.
  • Preferred :

  • One year of public health experience or similar preferred.
  • Intermediate Spanish language skills
  • Current / valid License : IBCLC, Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.

    Immunizations : All PHS required immunizations

    Pay Range - $50,306 - $67,607
